Jacques Pépin told a story about the first time he went to an american supermarket. He couldn't find the mushrooms so he asked an employee where they were. The employee pointed him to the canned foods aisle.

Wonder what his impression was of British food back in the day.

Sure. And macaroni and cheese usually has a fluorescent orange ersatz cheese powder. You could use a delicious blend of fresh cheeses instead.

The popular recipe isn't often the best one.

Frozen peas are not better though. They are way worse. Taste weird and not mushy enough.

Canned peas are really bad. I'll stick to frozen most of the time. I always have a bag of frozen peas and a bag of frozen corn in the freezer.

Adding velveeta to mac and cheese is awesome, however. I add about 125g of it to mine on Monday and it made it really creamy, even when microwaving leftovers at work.

I couldn't agree more.

There's also absolutely no sweetness to canned peas which is my favourite part of eating them in first place. Although the texture is also important.

I've found great coconut milk/cream in "juice" cartons. No unpleasant flavours ever.

A few times got some in a carton but it's not always available for some reason. Like that the cartons have more volume as well.

I trust the frozen version and it's easy to see the freshness, a can? who knows what rot is actually in there.
Had a tour of a tomato canning plants operation and it was a rude awakening.

Creamy ble dinde is a win

Looks unappetizing for certain. The fat is caramelized a bit, not the meat. Must have been marinating in wine (or something) and wasn't wiped to remove the excess moisture. Ughhh

Part of me wonders if it is in part crap lighting.

But "wifey" better be a hellcat or else this guy would prefer a nice plate of divorce papers.
