Hey guys, do you know who was the fastest fired coach in NHL history?

From what I know and remember it'd be David Savard in '08 and his four matches journey.

Was anybody in history fired faster? I'd be grateful for any news, maybe links with that news.

Thanks

Up.

Moved from The Rink since it is a history topic.

Denis Savard coached 147 NHL games:

Godfrey Matheson lasted two games for the 1932-33 Chicago Black Hawks. He's best known for his bizarre whistling system.

Bryan Trottier didn't last long as Rangers head coach. He had some mental issues

I ment of course at the begin of the new season. I know that Savard has been coaching his team two seasons before his quick end.

I've been reading about Trottier's attitude but right now I'm looking only for the least count of matches by the start of new season. Crazyness of coaches has to wait :)

I think it was Denis Savard and he had coached the previous year to boot.

Who has been hired and fired within the fewest games. No interm coaches.

Not exactly NHL, but there was the strange case of Mad Mike Milbury in 94. Resigns from the Bruins, hired as Coach of the Boston College Eagles, 60 days in resigns before even a puck is dropped claiming the College didnt share his vision for the hockey program....

Bill Laforge lasted 20 games in the NHL. I'm not sure if any other rookie coaches got the hook that fast.

Bill Gadsby had a winning record in his one full season coaching the Redwings. After 2 games in his second season he was fired even though both those games were Redwing wins. Go figure.

Hlinka was also fired four games into the season in 01-02, after coaching all of 00-01.

Of this what I found and red here Godfrey Matheson, Dicky Duff and other coaches were named as "interims".
It's really crazy thing what happened to Gadsby so I think he is true record holder. But Hlinka and Savard are right behind him.

And if you talk widely Davis Payne in '11 colected just 13 matches before he was replaced by the Hitch.

So a coach (William Gadsby) was fired after winning his first two games of the year? What's the story here? Was he caught in some tabloid controversy or something?

Previous owner of DRW didn't like him at all. He wanted for then GM Sid Abel to fire him in pre-season yet but Abel has insisted on him. Unfortunately pressure from the Bruce Norris (owner) has been rising so the necessary has to came after two games in the season, even it was winning games.

I've got next question: What was the cause of death of George O'Donoghue? He was only 39 when he died, it was only 2 years after his and in Toronto.
