The play of the game for the Canucks, in my opinion, was the Horvat breakaway attempt. He pulled past three San Jose players to reach the puck before them. While he did not score, I am always amazed at how improved his ability is now to separate himself from defenders.

With 19 games remaining, we are only 8 points ahead of 29th place in the standings.

8pts is actually quite a bit of ground to gain in only 18 games. I doubt we fall that far. We're a lottery team for sure, but likely 3rd last with Vegas.

Dreaming is fine, but you're still banking on ARI going above .500 the rest of the way. We've just run out of games.

I've pretty much come to terms with getting the 4th best odds come lottery time. I doubt we drop two spots again, hopefully one at the most.

Yeah, but we also need ARI to play above .500 hockey. I have no doubt we can do our part, but I don't see any way ARI suddenly becoming an above .500 hockey team. The cold hard truth is that we've just run out of games.

Well not really.

Assuming we have a terrible run and only pick up 10 points in the final 19 games, Arizona would need 19 points in their final 19 games. That is .500, not above .500.

It's not likely but stranger things have happened. What is Arizonas schedule like? I thought I heard it was reasonably soft but could be wrong.

I think we would pretty much have to lose 75% of the remaining games. AZ is on a pace to finish with 66 points. We are on a pace to finish with 76. If we could conceivably finish with 70 points (only 11 more points), could AZ pick up 19 points in their remaining 19 games?

So AZ has to play .500 hockey while the Canucks play .250 hockey.

Pretty much. Both teams are garbage so I wouldn't bet on ARI doing anything different than they've done all year. We just ran out of games.
