Per @TheFourthPeriod, the #NJDevils, Rangers, and Islanders are “in a battle” for Vladimir Tarasenko.
He adds that there “has been progress” on a trade.

I wonder how much the Blues retain on Tarasenko if the deal involves the Isles. With no retention and no cap hit (of dead weight) going back, I can’t see Lou making this move. It would have to involve at minimum Uncle Leo if it doesn’t invovle Leo and Hickey.

Tank and Panarin know each other. Supposedly Tarasenko tried to convince the blues to sign Panarin when he first left the KHL to play on a line with him.

And? Teams don't acquire players because they're friends. We traded Buchnevich to St. Louis for a shit return because we didn't want to pay him and we wanted to give younger guys more ice time. Trading for Tarasenko, even at 50%, makes zero sense.

Wouldn’t the Rangers have to move Kreider?

Edit: Nevermind, didn't realize Rangers have that much cap space.

Varlamov signed with the Islanders with all intentions of using him to coax Sorokin over to the Islanders. This worked out perfectly and Ilya is trending to be a top goalie in the league based on how he’s been performing. Panarin can talk to his buddy Vlad and try to get him interested in coming to the Rangers but the trade is up to Armstrong.

The Rangers make no sense whatsoever for the reasons mentioned earlier, the Islanders would have to send cap the other way minimizing the return the Blues would get and Fitz isn’t going to break the bank for a player who’s coming off back to back surgeries and can take his entire cap hit.

The Blues are trying to create a bidding that just isn’t there. Oh yeah, Tarasenko has been pretty vocal about wanting out, so that’s doesn’t help either.

Tank is #1 on my wish list but the return has to be low in order to make it happen.

The rangers are always in the hunt for any player that becomes available. They need those clicks.

Didn't say it was a good idea put your star player definitely has some pull.
