Zepp isn't a long term backup solution... he's fine to get called up for a game or two but I don't want him playing a backup's share of games. They need to find one in FA.

Steve Mason 3rd in League for Save % .928
PHI's best Save % since NHL started tracking stat in 1982 is Roman Cechmanek’s .925 in 2002/03 :thumbu:

Zepp has been ok but not great and he does not have any real upside.

I could see them bringing in another Veteran from Europe on a two-way contract next season as 3rd string goalie.
There have been reports that they were scouting Bernhard Starkbaum the last couple of seasons... just another possible gamble that may pay off.
The need to replace Emery with a proven NHL calibre backup though.

I believe Bernie has a .930 to his name

Per the flyershistory site, he had a 0.933 save percentage in 73/74.

Save percentage numbers are hard to find for goalies in that era, so that's the only reference I could find quickly.

In checking, I noticed that tomorrow is Bernie's birthday, too.

Bernie Parents Flyers sv% was ~0.917.

The hockey summary project, flyers history and a few guys doing blogs estimated historical sv% and 3 different guys came to the .917 estimate.

Full stats as per Flyers history:

1967-68: 38gp, 0.926sv%
1968-69: 58gp, 0.923sv%
1969-70: 62gp, 0.920sv%
1970-71: 30gp, 0.912sv%
1973-74: 73gp, 0.933sv%
1974-75: 68gp, 0.919sv%
1975-76: 11gp, 0.908sv%
1976-77: 61gp, 0.897sv%
1977-78: 49gp, 0.912sv%
1978-79: 36gp, 0.893sv%

Overall: 486gp, 0.917sv%

Playoffs:

1968: 5gp, 0.963sv%
1969: 3gp, 0.872sv%
1974: 17gp, 0.933sv%
1975: 15gp, 0.922sv%
1976: 8gp, 0.892sv%
1977: 3gp, 0.814sv%
1978: 12gp, 0.891sv%

Also a pretty interesting read, though the methodology is not great:

Showing just how bloody good Parent was... sv% was averaging ~.900 when he played for the Flyers, yet overall he put up ~.917.

Tomorrow is also the 150th anniversary of Union troops entering Richmond.

Logically, this means Bernie Parent won the Civil War.

The history of hockey board has his absolute peak beaten only by Hasek.

Mason's SV% rises to .934 if you take out the three times Berube made him play in NJ in back to back situations. 12 of the 100 goals he has allowed this season came in those games.

10/9/14 - 20/25

1/3/15 - 6/8

3/8/15 - 16/21

I think price, rinne, and Dubnyk get the top 3. Schneider, Holtby and mason are probably 4-6

I haven't seen Dubnyk in a long time, has he been that solid?

I hope so. Back when I was watching Edmonton it seemed clear to me he was a really solid goaltender with a lot of potential; despite what EDM fans were saying, he was far from their problem. But then he just got driven into the ground and lost confidence to the point where he did become a big part of the problem. A lot like Mason, actually.

There was one other back to back Mase played in this season.

10/9/14 at Devils - 20/25

12/3/15 at Ducks - 29/33

1/3/15 at Devils - 6/8

3/8/15 at Devils - 16/21

So in the second game of his four back to back appearances he allowed 16 goals and had a .816 SV%. In his other 44 games he allowed 84 goals and had a .935 SV%.

.939 SV% with Minny in 34 games.

Even with Arizona he was good. Overall, his season is:

35-11-3 .939 SV% 2.05 GAA

He will definitely be with Rinne and Price for the final 3 for Vezina.

I agree that Mason will be 4-6.

Mason had a career .906 sv % when traded here a few years ago. He now has a .910 sv %, and Im sure will continue to climb. What a great story.
