I agree but I could see the Rangers grabbing a forward if whichever guy they’re high on is available.
Maybe, but they are quite forward heavy with a lot of good ones in the pipeline and could use a potential top pairing dman.

The wildcard for me is Chicago, They could use a good dman. And i could see them taking a guy like Ty Smith if Hughes is gone. I can also see them taking Kotkaniemi

I feel DET,VAN,CHI,NYR are teams that will be looking to draft a defenseman. One of them could like Ty Smith a lot, but i think we should be looking to try and move up

Hawks fans seem to think they'll take a forward. Rangers is a bit of a toss up but a lot of people have them taking a forward too, so we'll see.

I think Tkachuk and Wahlstrom are gone before they pick, so not sure if they will like Kotkaniemi or Farabee over the dmen available

Pretty safe assumption that Hughes and Dobson will be gone in the top 9. I think theres a good chance we land one of Boqvist or Bouchard which Im fine with. My updated list as it stands:

Dahlin
Hughes
Zadina
Dobson
Svechnikov
Tkachuk
(Any of the guys from Hughes to Tkachuk could go in any order, this is my order of preference)

Bouchard
Wahlstrom
Kotkaniemi
Boqvist
Farabee
Kupari
Smith

Those are the guys I like and how my list would look. Obviously teams can reach a bit on guys if they wanted to draft for need.

Tolvanen, among other wingers slid badly last year. I’m hoping it’s the same this year. One of Brady or Wahlstrom and I’m extremely happy. If Vancouver ends up with one and we miss out on both I’ll turn off my TV lol. The thought of Boeser/Wahlstrom or Boeser/Tkachuk along with that Swedish kid gives me a headache. We already have Matthew haunting us for the next decade :eyeroll:

The strategy with the turd is to have someone like Nurse beat the crap out of him.
Matthew would sooner bait him into taking penalties before dropping the gloves lol. I’m more worried of a dirty hit, like the one on Davidson

That's why we need to find our dirt bag later in the draft. Guys like Austin Wong or Martin Pospisil. They have some skill, and if developed properly, they are the kind of guy who could become a Raffi Torres type of player.

The sum of Kassian/Lucic/Khaira/Nurse suffices for now, but we need to find those types of players moving forward. I believe it is important as an organization to draft a variety of types of players so the team is positioned well moving forward. Drafting for skill only leaves a dearth of other skills, while drafting coke machines leaves a dearth in skill.

Well, that's interesting.

Wahlstrom isn't going to Harvard anymore. Sounds like he's choosing between Michigan and Boston College now.

Michigan would be pretty crazy with him and Quinn next season and likely Jack the following year if Wahlstrom/Quinn stay there that long.

Damn, how do you rack up 253 penalty minutes in 49 games?! That's crazy.

Interesting. 2nd time he changes his college commitment now. He was committed to University of Maine first, then switched to Harvard and now BC/Michigan?

Apparently this is what Corey Pronman's top10 look like:

1. Dahlin
2. Svechnikov
3. Zadina
4. Kotkaniemi
5. Hughes
6. Wahlstrom
7. Boqvist
8. Bokk
9. Tkachuk
10. Merkley

Very interesting. No Dobson or Bouchard in the top10.

After Dobsons strong mem cup and seeing Bouchards absurd numbers in the OHL. I think its pretty much guaranteed we arent getting one of them. Boqvist is our guy.

Bokk seems like a good candidate to go higher than expected.

Basically no exposure outside people going to see SuperElit games.

That is...definitely against the grain. My top 10 is:

1. Dahlin
2. Svechnikov
3. Zadina
4. Boqvist (I think Ottawa picks him)
5. Hughes
6. Dobson (moves up a couple of spots due to memorial cup performance)
7. Tkachuk
8. Wahlstrom
9. Bouchard
10. Smith (Oilers will most likely pick a dman)

There is a LOT of group think in the perception that there is some sort of set in stone top 9 in a tier above others in this draft.

I could EASILY see players like Merkley, Kotkaniemi, Kravtsov being just as good or better than anything in that "group of 9".. and even players like Nordgren and Addison are right there up at the top of this draft.

I like both of these players, but there is a clear divide between them and those at the top of this draft. Nordgren is 5'9 and far from an elite skater. He has drive, and a nose for the net, but if he doesn't improve his skating, he won't play in the NHL. At 5'9, that's the kiss of death for a prospect. He won't go in the first round, and shouldn't go in the first round. Addison is another player I like, but he is clearly a step below Merkley in terms of offense, and defensively on par with Merkley. Merkley deserves to go ahead of him on talent alone. Merkley is apparently uncoachable and an attitude problem or whatever, but Team Canada still has him on their radar, and Addison hasn't improved his defense either, so what would make him on par with Smith/Bouchard/Dobson etc...

Pronman values speed and skill over everything else. He even states that his rankings isn’t what will happen on draft day. Just how he thinks they should be rank based on his criteria. He doesn’t value as highly players that are safe etc.

Looking back at his rankings it’s interesting. He nails some picks and is totally out to lunch on others (like most scouts). He really seems to be off on dmen. In 2015 for example he had Provorov ranked in the mid/late teens. He had Chabot I think #47. These are 18 year old kids so projecting them is an inexact science. I remember reading that if a scout can be right 20% of the time he is considered a success. Which is funny to think about when some of us argue about player X or Y so vehemently. Or say player Z is going to be way better then the consensus rankings. The truth is no one knows shit. Even the pros are wrong most of the time. And they have expertise and experience in the field .

Anyways back to Pronman, his ranking for 2013 and 2015 aren’t looking great in hindsight (I posted his 2013 rankings in the prospects section).

His 2014 is looking decent except for Bennett at #2. Pronman was higher on Nylander, Ehlers, Pastrnak and Fabbri then the consensus. Give him props for having Pastrnak ranked so highly when I don’t remember anyone else having him so high
