Colorado Avalanche Draft Picks
1st round: Kept
2nd round: Re-acquired
3rd round: Kept
4th round: Traded [To Maple Leafs for Matthias]
5th round: Kept
6th round: Kept
7th round: Kept
***Avs re-acquired their 2016 2nd rounder and 2017 6th rounder picks from the San Jose Sharks by trading pick 31st (Jeremy Roy), which they got from Buffalo from the O'Reilly trade, for 39th (AJ Greer) and these picks in the 2015 entry draft. Avs would have had another 6th rounder from Boston, but it was traded back to the Bruins for the rights to Soderberg before July 1st.***

**FYI: Prospects chosen for the poll came from Bob McKenzie's midterm rankings.**

With regards to the question of how the Avs don't draft D in the first round; we really don't know what they'll do if we end up with two first round picks. If we do, hypothetically, end up with another top 10 pick, it seems very unlikely they'd go forward twice. Draft a forward with the first pick and D with the other.

I don't buy the "they won't draft D in the first round". With this group anything seems possible. Especially considering that we broke tradition and took Rantanen last draft.

That's probably one of the bright sports for Sakic, Roy + Co. They aren't worried about following tradition or players of a certain mold. I'm sure they have preference, but not enough that it blinds their judgement and take a player like Heard in the 2nd round.

I'm hoping we get a forward, drafting a forward in the first is the only way we can get real top six talent in the pipeline, but if Sergachev or Chychrun are on the board at 10 assuming everything stays the same, I can definitely see them being unable to pass that up.

Why does Button have Tage Thompson in his top 30? What's so special about him, some size and a decent shot? I get Katchouk being in his top 30 but Thompson is such a late 2nd round pick to me. Better goal scorers in the draft imo.

I don't think he's released his final list has he? But it's button, he falls in love with guys. Thompson won't be his wildest inclusion though, I think many have him in the top 30.

Just my opinion, but Hepple didn't seem to think much of Chychrun's offensive game, and if you don't think there's much offense there, then I don't know if that's someone you pick in the top 10.

Have to figure Julien Gauthier shot up the Avs' board.

As if he wasn't way up there already. He's a big frenchy, I'll be surprised if they don't pick him to be honest. (unless Brown is still on the board)

I don't get why some tests (bench press) are based on the percentage of their weight. The NHL isn't MMA or boxing. It isn't a pound for pound league. Whether your 150 pounds or 300 pounds you still have to play the same competition. Throw 150lbs or something typical on the bar and see who can do it the most.

I expect he's over Brown, unless Roy is over enamored by the extra 3 inches.

I don't think Roy would care about the extra three inches or the fact he's french. He'd care that Brown is much more skilled than Gauthier.

If it were just about picking the bigger, stronger guy, the Avs would have drafted Crouse over Rantanen.
