Today marks 22 years since Reggie Lewis died.

I remember Mike Lynch reporting that he had collapsed and then when Sean McDonough announced that he had died in the middle of the Sox game.

So tragic and preventable.

Him and Bias going out within 6 years set this franchise back for a decade and a half. Everything should have been in place to ensure a smooth transition once Bird retired, but instead we ended up with Dino Radja as the best player.

Pretty much this. Bias was so preventable too, just stupid on his part.

Zoran Dragic had been traded to Boston. Heat really like Richardson. Goran is fine with it. Zoran wants playing time.

Zoran is crafty, don't think he's gonna get the playing time he wants though

No chance he stays. We'll release him. We just bought a 2nd round pick from a team in the luxury tax. That's all. That's the last thing we'll do with our cap space. We have a press conference at 3 where we'll probably announce the Lee and Crowder moves, which will take us back over the cap.

Right on all counts.

Zoran Dragic just got shipped up to Boston

According to ESPN's Dan Le Batard and Brian Windhorst, the Miami Heat have traded Zoran Dragic and a future second-round pick to the Boston Celtics for a heavily-protected second-round pick. LeBatard notes that Dragic's brother and starting Heat point guard Goran Dragic is "fine" with the trade since Zoran wants more playing time.

This was a cost-saving and roster-clearing move by the Heat. Dragic hardly played, and with the recent trade of Shabazz Napier to the Orlando Magic, the Heat are trying to get under the luxury-tax bill.

According to the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach, the Celtics will waive Dragic and the Heat have agreed to pay his salary. For Boston, this trade was mainly about the second-round pick, which gives the Celtics an asset in future trades.

hope that extra salary doesn't hurt the chances of a rondo extension

oh boy the Celtics got another second round pick that has close to little value. great move by trader Danny

Well it won't be Miami's 2016 2nd round pick coming to Boston in this deal as that's already been traded to Boston as part of an earlier 3-team deal with Miami and Golden State.

To Boston: C Joel Anthony ( from Miami ), Miami's 2016 2nd round pick, a protected top 14 2015 1st round pick from Philadelphia which has turned into a 2015 2nd round pick from Philly ( Boston used this pick to draft Jordan Micky at # 33 ) and a 2016 2nd round pick from Philly

To Golden State: G Jordan Crawford and G/F Marshon Brooks ( from Boston )

To Miami: G Toney Douglas ( from Golden State )

EDIT - ESPN is now reporting that Miami is sending Boston it's 2020 2nd round pick while Boston is sending Miami a " heavily protected " 2019 2nd round pick which is almost certain to stay with Boston.

Don't get the hate. It was a great move. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what others have posted, and what I have read, Miami is still paying all of Dragic's salary, so we are basically getting a 2nd rounder for free by absorbing the cap hit. It also won't effect our luxury tax either. Sure 2nd rounders aren't a huge deal, but there are gems, or at least useful players that can be found in the 2nd. Jordan Mickey, hopefully, could be an example of this. Its still another asset to have for future dealings as well.

"But eating his $1,706,250 salary is no big deal for the Celtics. Unlike Miami, they don’t have to pay a luxury tax on that money. Most importantly to them, they get a draft pick for their troubles"

they have all this cap space to absorb the hit because they're bad and have nothing to spend it on. That's what's frustrating. And 2nd round picks aren't really assets, no one wants them.

So you're just taking a trade that did nothing but give us a free 2nd round pick as an opportunity to say the team sucks? What an awesome contribution to the thread. Thanks.

Too bad that Napier wasn't the one traded here, he's an actual Point Guard as opposed to Smart, Rozier & Thornton.
