I know his worts are well documented however had he not been healthy scratched for a handful of games last season he would have potted 30 goals (as was he netted 28), and 30 goal scorers don't grow on trees.

Someone will definitely take a flyer on him.

If Petr Mrazek didn't suck for majority of games he would be a Vezina caliber goalie, and Vezina caliber goalies don't grown on trees.

He is atrocious player on defensive end and brings no value when not scoring. And even then his defensive warts and general worthlessness make him awful pickup

Any GM who gives value deserves to be called out for stupidity

I hope Davidson doesn't waste a quality asset on him. We already have AA filling the shitty offense only guy who occasionally gets hot but is useless most nights.

Colin Blackwell straight up is as far as Hawks should go if they have interest

Not really a good comparison.

Olofsson was healthy scratched for 7 games last season. Had he played those games, he likely gets 2 more goals and scores 30, which is an objective statement.

I hear this often with players. GM's aren't fans, they look at "true organizational value". If a team needs a pp specialist, a sniper, they'll pay what they need to in order to get it. Happens every year. As I've stated a couple of times now, Olofsson will garner more than some fans realize.

Can you take a moment of introspection here? Evaluate whether or not the example of Mrazek "sucking for the majority of games" but potentially being "vezina caliber" is a fair response to someone saying a 28 goal scorer likely would have hit 30 if he wasn't out for 7 games.

Yeah I think people grossly exaggerate the "negative value" tag. A player's value is what other teams are willing to pay for it, it's more like a bartering system than a set price system. A player who has negative value to others may have positive value to one GM, look at what Hextall did when he traded a 2nd for Granlund.

Trying to say Olofsson has negative value because "he sucks defensively!" ignores how GMs actually operate. No team is trading for Viktor Olofsson for his defense, they're trading for him for his goal scoring.

With that being said, I wouldn't expect much more than Olofsson for a swap of a better fit for the Sabres. Something like Olofsson for an expensive #4 RD or 3rd line winger seems like it would make sense.

If he didn’t suck ass he wouldn’t have gotten healthy scratched for those 7 games:

So what you’re saying is if he didn’t suck ass he’d have 30 goals

Yeah Olofsson is heavily flawed but he has two things going for him/Buffalo:

- He is able to play and be pretty good at a specific role. If you play him in top six even strength minutes and he continues to be an analytical suck at it, don’t act surprised. Don’t trade for him to be that guy.

- He’s got no contract commitment past this season. This is huge and an obvious reason he may have some value where some other trade block candidates who are more “complete” players do not have value.

If the Sabres retain - then a bottom six PP specialist with no commitment is going to have some sort of positive value around the league.

Get the Sabres to retain half. Use him at even strength on your stealth tank/rebuild year. Retain half at the deadline. Now someone can get him for 1.15 million. Sabres get an asset and a roster spot. Team A can flip him for more when he’s even cheaper…and they can pump his production while not helping themselves win when they don’t want to. Team B gets a super cheap PP specialist for the playoffs.

Everybody wins.

Said it before he'd be a great replacement for Kerfoot even if he's just a goal scorer, because Kerfoot isn't even that.

Doubt Buffalo moves him within the division though

Anyone buying Olofsson will have buyer’s remorse the moment he steps on the ice for them. He is a worse skating version of dzingel

If you look at last season. Most of his goals were at ES. Hr generally played PP2.

sure he’s not strong defensively but he also isn’t a sinkhole defensivelyeither.

if you play him with 2 linemates who are strong defensively 8m sure his ststes would be better

hes valuable in the playoffs. Teams that advance tend to have very good PP units. He can elevate thr PP innthr playoffs with his one timers.

buffalo probably tpretains him down to $3M or so.

Defensive liability PP specialists are far from sought out by NHL contenders.

Generally, that type of player ends up costing team dearly when on ice in big moments and are generally press box fodder when stakes are raised.
