Well you do what Carolina did, 1 year over value and then long term deal at lower value after that

In that case you run the risk of the player accepting a QO or going to arbitration every year and walking right to UFA.

I can't see a case where Dallas wouldn't match the offer, in realistic terms.

Bergevin has not been shy about offer sheeting and he's with LA now - maybe them?

Tough to know, but lots of teams need a #1 goalie - especially a young one like that. Could Toronto or Colorado afford the cap hit + picks?

Maybe the Canes?

up to $1.38649 million requires no compensation
From the above to $2.100742 million requires one 3rd
The above to $4.201488 million requires one 2nd
To $6.30223 million requires one 1st and one 3rd

To $8.402975 million requires one 1st, one 2nd and one 3rd
To $10.50372 million requires two 1sts, one 2nd and one 3rd
Any amount over the above requires four 1sts.

I honestly cannot see ANY team going higher than $6.3 and that would seem high also. Dallas matches that ALL DAY LONG.

I’d offer $7M without hesitation.

Id be offersheeting the shit out of him too if i were some teams... he looks like he will be an absolute stud soon... hes a stud now but eventually he will hit the ABSOLUTE stud status!!!
If you are a goalie away from being a very good team it makes sense. But with any OS it has to be at an amount that makes Dallas back down and thus we are likely talking about a cap hit greater than Gibson’s $6.4 mill as the only others that are higher are price, Bob and Vasi.

The Flames hack offense and inability to score on him in the playoffs is going to get him paid.

A $7Mx 6 year OS would be 1st,2nd,3rd compensation. If the goal was to land him that's about what it would take. If Dallas matches they'd be in a bind to keep Robertson.

Teams with 7 mil in cap space left:

Ottawa: Missing their 2023 3rd
Winnipeg: Hellebuyck entrenched
Detroit: Already spent on Husso
Chicago: unlikely
NY Islanders: money reserved for others
Anaheim: Gibson
Buffalo: Missing 2023 3rd
Arizona: unlikely

I don't see who would even offersheet him at this point. The teams that need a #1 goalie and could part with an unprotected 1st are all capped out. Ottawa is pretty much the only team close enough to being good that could realistically do it.

If Vegas was smart they'd dump Lehner and do it, but if Vegas was smart they would've dumped Lehner instead of Pacioretty in the first place.

Demko got 5x5, gotta think that would get it done in a no tax state to boot?
The issue with 5x5 is that it only leaves 6.4 for Robertson. Robo wont take term at 6.4 and that is also on the low end for a bridge. Its a tricky balance. I think Dallas would be happy with Otter in the 4.4 range and Robo at around 7 on a bridge that expires when Faksas money frees up. That way we can shift Faksas money to Robo and use the Benn money to extend the rookie between Mav, Wyatt and Stank who makes the team this year.

Watch buffalo shock the league...
OS Oettinger @7M (after getting their 3rd back)

Then sign Kadri & PK to add veteran support to their impressive young talent.

Even if that isn't enough to get them into playoffs (I think it would), if Oett is the real deal, having him in place as their elite young talent comes of age would be worth the pick they give up.

Tough for stars to match that, both cap crunch & allure of Sabres bet falling flat in hockey's toughest division & that 1st being a high lottery pick in a great draft year...

A Cup contender with Goalie issues(TOR, CAR, EDM?)would have to think about offering 6.3M at least. A 1st, 2nd, 3rd is no big deal if you are talking about picks in the 20's, 50's and 80's.

Trouble with most contending teams is that they are often near the cap. I'm also not sure that a team will want to offer him more than 7M/yr....don't know if DAL would match that.

Just barely as the AAV for the comp would actually be $8.4 mill as the NHL uses a denominator of the Lessor of 5 years or the term of the contract to calculate the compensation. $42 mill over 5 years.

The threshold to cross is a bit over $8.4 mill.
