There's potentially a good team here but as always with the U.S. it's tough to envision a super strong team laden with stars. Here's who I would go with at this juncture (trying to be realistic:

Goaltenders (x3):

Alex Nedeljkovic
Anthony Stolarz
Cayde Primeau

* Note: The obvious names are Hellebucyk, Gibson, and Demko but they have all had challenging years and probably need a break.

Defense (x8):

Quinn Hughes/Cam Fowler
Seth Jones/Scott Mayfield
Cam York/Nate Schmidt
Jake Sanderson/Chris Wideman

* Note: I can see Luke Hughes making this team for sure

Forwards (x14):

Alex DeBrincat/Dylan Larkin/Cole Caufield
Brady Tkachuk/Josh Norris/Connor Garland
Christian Dvorak/Tage Thompson/Alex Tuch

I understood the reason for Lasch left out of the olympic team. It was small rinks. But this WC is big rinks. Lasch is super skilled and very fast. Put him with 2 good NHLers and he WILL produce.

Would be cool if USA send a dream team. Its about time USA takes the gold. USA have zero golds in WC which makes no sense. Just mad amount of bad luck i guess. Dont come with the classic comment "becuse nobody cares about WC in usa", yeah sure. Then why does the americans players who actually played in WC work hard and celebrate when they win games and score goals? Why have Canada so many gold medals in WC?

I would be ecstatic to get any combination of Donato, Beniers, Zegras, Terry, Farabee, Brink, Tuch, Thompson, Caufield, B. Tkachuk, Norris, Wahlstrom, Boeser, Roslovic, etc etc.

So many younger players who outside of contracts should be here. The offense could be really really strong and that is without any vets like Kane, Miller, Debrincat, Larkin, Connor, Nelson, Keller etc.

No real issue here. These guys are fine for this event. Granato is particular has done a good job with a young Buffalo team. Maybe we'll some guys like Larkin, Thompson, etc. play.

Solid coaching staff for sure. Probably one of the best we have ever had for this tournament. Good sign as hopefully like you said they can lure some of the more proven young NHLers to show up.

This is a very realistic team, I expect a lot of these names to be here outside of contract issues/injuries not disclosed yet. This would be a team that should challenge for the Gold. Now is the time for Connor to answer the call for USA Hockey.

Larkin was laboring towards the end of the season so not surprised he needs surgery. I wouldn't mind a guy like Stastny playing. He's had a good year.
