Who are the most likely guys to fill the 2 remaining d-man spots after Tuulola/Sopanen/Niku/Moberg/Keskitalo?

All of those 5 are lefties so any change for Vainio or Saarijärvi as they are RHD's?

Take a look at the entry list at IIHF's website. Here are the players with small numbers:

1 Vehviläinen
30 Kähkönen
31 Voutilainen

3 Keskitalo
4 Parikka
5 Väinölä
6 Tuulola
7 Sopanen
8 Tolvanen
11 Rouhiainen
23 Haapanen

9 A.Mäkinen
10 Aho
12 Hopponen
13 Gymer
14 Kauppinen
15 M. Mäkinen
16 Kalapudas
18 Pitkänen
19 Repo
20 Lämsä
21 Hintz
22 Honkanen
24 Kapanen
25 Saarela
26 Rantanen
27 Kiviranta
28 Lammikko
29 Jääskeläinen

It's very strange that Niku's name is missing from the list altogether. Another thing worth noting is that Moberg has a big number. It doesn't have to mean anything, but for the most part players with big numbers seem like lesser candidates on that list.

Sopanen is a rightie, and so is Tolvanen if he makes the team. Vainio's name is missing from the entry list, it's possible that Urama views him as a D who causes too many turnovers and isn't dependable enough in the defensive end. Anyhow, 3 goals in his first 2 Jr.A final games is pretty good for a 16-y.o. defenseman. He might deserve another look.

Saarijärvi lacks size, and that's the only thing he lacks in comparison to 96-born D's on that list. To me it's a bit surprising that Urama hasn't tested him with the U18 national team.

What exactly is the point of including a guy like Rasmus Smedberg on the team's shortlist instead of Jesse Puljujarvi? Smedberg is 5'8 and scored less than 0.5 ppg. Why not give a spot, even a limited one, to a younger player with a million times more potential and a much better track record to boot?

My guess that federation doesn't want to give these young guys too much hope for making the team and end up disappointing them if they don't.

I knew Sopanen as leftie didn't make sense but he is listed as LH everywhere.

They have Petrus Pietiläinen listed twice so my quess other one of them is actually Niku as they are both from JYP.

I'm just dying for a reason to leave Saarela out of the competition. He had a poor season of course, but playing against men isn't the same as playing peers. Meh.

No laine or Puljujärvi either. Awssum!

Where did you hear about Saarela's injury? Long-term?
Why am I getting the "meidän peli" kinda itch. They should be taking the best players regardless of the age. I would think even if the 2 were injured, Puljujärvi would still have enough size and skill to break the team.

A poster at Jatkoaika said they were injured("telakalla"): http://keskustelu.jatkoaika.com/showpost.php?p=5289106&postcount=36

Based on the comments of the few posters at Jatkoaika that follow the juniors (mainly Jokerit), seems Puljujärvi still has work to do in the team concept areas of his game to be taken to the U-18 WJC at this stage.

Laine is out six months, ACL broken.

There will be a 2nd camp next week, I wonder if Puljujärvi and Saarela might attend that camp. Kärpät's U16 coach said to a newspaper yesterday that Puljujärvi has received an invite, but it's unclear when he attends due to U16 finals. There's also that conflicting rumour that Saarela is actually a healthy scratch for Lukko and Dufva is just preventing him from attending. Kind of difficult to know what to believe, would be nice if someone actually knew what the truth is.

Puljujärvi is in the U17 tournament roster: http://www.leijonat.fi/maajoukkueet...avat-suomea-kotiturnauksessa-huhtikuussa.html

Indeed it seems that there is conflicting information on Saarela, according to this he's a healthy scratch for Lukko: http://kiekkoareena.fi/jutut/kiekkoareena/juttu-mattsson-lukosta-mm-leiritykseen

If it's true Dufva's having Saarela be a healthy scratch instead of play for the NT, he needs to get off his high horse and let the boy go. Unless they end up with several more injuries, there's no way Saarela will play for Lukko.:shakehead

Lineup vs Jyp-Akatemia

21 Otto Nieminen - 18 Miikka Pitkänen - 11 Roope Hintz
4 Jarkko Parikka - 7 Eetu Sopanen

9 Atte Mäkinen - 15 Miro Mäkinen - 14 Antti Kauppinen
3 Matias Mattsson - 5 Ville Väinölä

19 Sebastian Repo - 20 Teemu Lämsä - 10 Patrik Virta
6 Joni Tuulola - 8 Otto Tolvanen

16 Joona Jääskeläinen - 13 Frank Gymer - 22 Rasmus Smedberg
2 Kimi Leppävuori - 23 Markus Haapanen

Vehviläinen
Saari

No idea why 3rd line has 3 right handed players and first line has none, doesn't make much sense.

Based on that Aho,Kalapudas,Kapanen,Lammikko,Rantanen and Hopponen are locks for the final team. Honkanen and Saarela are injured.

In the second game U18 won 9-0. Goals were scored by Kapanen (3), Aho (3), Lammikko, A Mäkinen and Repo.

Mikael Saari played for JYP-Akatemia and let in 9 goals. It seems he hasn't developed much or at all since last season because he was very impressive in the U17 WHC.

And is our division 1 teams so bad that our U18 team can beat them? I thought that they (U18) would get crushed against JYP-Akatemia.

Nice to see Saarela get into the second week. Maybe tells something good about the competition that Hintz with 7 Liiga games experience left out.
