Let's see which team's fans can assemble the best team for one playoff run. All the players are thrown into a 20-round dispersal draft (12F, 6D, 2G). The draft order was randomly generated and this is not a fantasy-based draft for points.

Goalie is a guy who can turn the tide for you, have the biggest impact on a game.

You'd even entertain Seguin leading a team to a cup? not at this point in his career.

I wouldn't pick him here but he he should be on this list. More of an observation than complaint though, I'm sure OP had to make some tough calls.

If you want to pick a leader then pick someone who has actually won it, then go Kopitar.

How many are really going to pick a goalie? By 56 there probably will be 30 centers taken.

I went with Quick...all the top goalies will be gone by next pick, and it is a ton harder to win with a journeyman.

I was going to disagree, but now I think you're right. Goalies i'd consider to go far:

Quick
Lundqvist
Varlamov
Bishop
Price
Rask
Lehtonen
Bobrovsky
Loungo
Rinne
Schneider
Bernier
Crawford

Not in order, and definitely not all the same cailber, but I think there's a significant dropoff afterwards and I agree after 60 picks, they'll all be taken. This spot actually kind of sucks for non-fantasy

Got to be doughty (or Weber). Just not enough top Dmen out there for any to make it to the next round. Goalies and centers will still be available. Still some really good ones in the 10-15 range, position wise.

So basically, it comes to a debate between one of the Kings cores (Kopitar/Doughty/Quick) or an elite C.

kopitar is an elite C.

this is between kopitar or doughty for me. doughty is an animal when he turns it on and kopitar wins every matchup he faces. both are awesome at pretty much everything.

doughty is maybe the slightly more important player.

but our next pick is at #56.

will there be better center or defender (05 G) available then? subban, a-pie, karlsson, weber and co are surely gone by that point. players left might be greene, shattenkirk, bouwmeester, martin and so on. good players but not going to lead you to cup.

but there might be centers like stastny, turris, backes, staal and so on. yeah, not good enough to lead one to cup either, but i think it's slightly better to have one of those and doughty than kopitar and good but not elite D. matter of an opinion, fine with both.

no goalie is going to win or has win without a good team in front of him. an even medicore goalie can go on a hot run for 20+ games. medicore center or defender is not going to win matchups against elite guys for same amount of games. i'm very much against picking goalie here.

goalies like howard and craw have only 0.04 and 0.03 worse sv% than quick in playoffs. that's not enough to cover what we'd lose in doughty/kopitar vs oneofthoseguysavailablewhenwepicknext. that's only one goal in 10 games or so. doughty or kopitar would help more.

No comments talk about Tavares yet he's winning. I wouldn't mind him but I'd prefer to go elite D here with Doughty or Weber - and I chose Doughty because he's proven to be a performer when it matters.

Doughty is who I would pick. IMO the best defensemen in the league when it counts. He seems to take parts of the regular season off, but when the playoffs come, he is usually the best player on the ice.
