Amazing deal in this day and age. I do think it's an actual FAIR value for him but considering how much everyone else is getting these days, very good deal for the Bolts.

If you keep saying it, eventually it will come true.

Or not.

Probably not.

I don't see how it won't. They are by far the most vulnerable team to get guys offer sheeted by a country mile since the cap started.

I think people need to re-evaluate their use of the term "steal".

Hedman and Ekblad play in the warmest/most attractive markets in the NHL on contending/playoff squads....all the while flying completely under the radar of media scrutiny and having the luxury of public anonymity.

Given the aforesaid circumstances, if the Lightning or Panthers actually have to pay more than 7-7.5, then it's an overpay IMO.
Hedman would have gotten 11M+ on the open market. Even Duthie mentioned he would have likely been the highest paid player in the entire league to Hedman during his live call on TSN. You're hilarious.

Between Stamkos and Hedman... How the heck did they convince them to leave an easy combined 6m on the table. Wow. The Value of sunshine.

Did not bendover for Drouin.
Stood his ground with Stamkos.
Got a great discount on Hedman.

Detroit was willing to go above 10 for Stamkos and Hedman would fill a far bigger need for us, so..

Lightning stars want to stay contending. With Carle being bought out, and Stamkos and Hedman signing under market value, the should be able to keep the core of the team together.

Courtesy of one of our forum mods:

Some duos around the league...

Chicago: Kane (10.5) + Toews (10.5) = 21 mil
Pittsburgh: Malkin (9.5) + Crosby (8.7) = 18.2 mil
Anaheim: Perry (8.625) + Getzlaf (8.250) = 16.875 mil
Philly: Giroux (8.275) + Voracek (8.250) = 16.525 mil
Tampa Bay: Stamkos (8.5) + Hedman (7.875) = 16.375 mil
New York Rangers: Nash (7.8) + Lundqvist (8.5) = 16.3 mil
Washington: Ovechkin (9.538) + Backstrom (6.700) = 16.238

Moving Bishop and one of Filppula or Callahan is imperative to keeping everybody together. But it does give me hope that Kuch will agree to 6x6 though.

Amazing deal for the Bolts. With him and Stamkos locked up without being overpaid they'll be in a great spot to retain most of their younger talent and contend for years.

Just like Stamkos, Hedman could have gotten 10 Mil at minimum in free agency. Yzerman is working some serious magic by being so damn stubborn this year.

I would not be surprised if Yzerman had a tax accountant in the room explaining how the take-home pay is more there than elsewhere. Whatever it is, Detroit really misses Stevie Y.
