Based on Tampa's expiring D contracts, and the need for a strong righty on Hedman's pair.

TBL:
Petry, Jeff (2.5M retention, AAV of $3M for 3 years)
Armia, Joel

MTL:
Conditional 2019 1st round pick*
Foote, Cal
Raddysh, Taylor
Callahan, Ryan

*As this pick is set to become NYR's pick if they win the cup, the pick then becomes a 2020 1st if TBL wins the cup in 2019.

Tampa moves out Callahan's cap, gets cap relief with Petry, and in return give up 2 solid prospects and a 1st.
Armia's also an upgrade on Callahan, cheaper & RFA.

Is there anything else you want us to throw in while we're lubed up?

Meh. I'd rather keep our prospects for now. Foote is on his ELC (very important for us right now) and could be an impact player as soon as next season. Also I would rather keep that first round pick because we already traded two (potentially 3) away in the McDonagh deal.

$20 USD, k, thanx.

In all seriousness though, the going rate for top 4Ds of late usually includes a mix of a 1st and a bunch of 2nds or such.

You include that with heavy retention, a cap dump, and an upgrade on the cap dump, don't see why it couldn't be 1st, 2nd, and 1st. going back (1st, Raddysh, and Foote). Obviously an all-in move.

More like a "f*** our future" move.

Also on what planet are Joel Armia and Jeff Petry an "all in" move?

I think we'd prefer to just do a small side deal to relieve ourselves of Callahan's contract.

For shame sir, for shame.

More like a "**** our future" move.

I mean, your username says it all though, Tampa's going all in over the next 3 years that's for sure, those are the prime years for its roster and its big contracts still going.

Tampa isn't in a "let's think about the future" phase, more in a "let's go for the cup".

Plus always remember that GMs, contrary to HF, see proven commodities as more valuable than up and coming prospects.

Why does Tampa need to move Callahan ? I think most of us on the TBL board are okay with keeping him for the season. There's certainly no need to rush to move him particularly if you think you're going to get premium assets along with him.

That's more than we paid for McDonagh. If we wouldn't add Foote in that deal...

Callahan's fine in his role. We can move him in the off-season.

Even if we pretend Petry and Armia are all-in pieces (hahah), Tampa could certainly do better if they shopped a Foote+Raddysh+1st package elsewhere.

No reason for TB to do this. Today’s roster might get better, but the trade actually sets them back.

I think value is close, I think this is just too much for either team to sacrifice. Tampa doesn't really need to get better on d either.

Nah... Would much rather focus on one big piece than a bunch of relatively meh pieces

A late first, future middle six winger, and a likely second pair d is a bit more than meh. I feel overvalued yes but definitely more than meh

Why does Tampa do this?

But the real question is why Montreal do this? They retain ~2.5M on an elite #3 who’s still locked for a few season and is on pace for ~60 points (dead cap for us and I’ve rarely seen a team trade such an asset at 3M per for 3 playoff runs). We just paid millions in real $$ (Mason buyout) to acquire Armia AND we’re taking on another cap dump in Callahan and two prospects who aren’t really what we need (We are so deep at RHD already with Weber - Juulsen - Brook - Fleury - Petry).

Gimme a break.

It won't take that much for Tampa to move Callahan. If they retain like 2 million in salary could have a lot of takers and even get a late pick in return. A Callahan for what he still brings at 3 or 3.5 million is well worth that hit and a team looking to add a top PK specialist, shutdown forward with grit and leadership, and some offense, would bite.

Also, Why would they try and move a player who they don't even want to move right now, and on top of that attach a top pick and top prospects? I mean sure if you get BriseBois drunk....really drunk, you might have a shot.

Callahan is one of the better 4th liners in the league. He could play 3rd line for some teams and be a good role player. Not going to put up too many points but gives you his all every shift. Some team will find value in his hustle and leadership.
