Hall for Zucker. Hall extends 5y, 6m per.

Buffalo gets a 2nd line player signed for a couple more seasons for a player that didn't fit.

Pens roll the dice that Hall would turn it around playing on a better team with Malkin since they won't play Zucker with Crosby and he doesn't fit with Malkin.

Hall goes to a contender with an extension that expires after his 34 year old season to allow for a multi-year extension if he is any good then.
The taylor Hall that went to and then mocked how hard Crosby and Marchand were working in the summer camp? Who is known to be lacksadaisal in practices himself
lol, Sid ain't letting him on that team if he has any say.

Sid may have been nice to Kessel in the media, but he made damn sure kessel wasn't on his line. So did malkin eventually.

If Hall signs, doesn't he then have to be protected in the expansion draft?

I am not sure if Hall even likes to play hockey if he has to work hard at it

Basis of three way deal where Buffalo gets youth/picks/expiring deal. Maybe.

Buffalo adding Zucker? Makes no sense with the pending expensive rfa's.

Hall has less goals this season than Cody Ceci.

Just sayin'.

Be that as it may both sid and Malkin have Kessel to thank for 2 cups. They DONT win either without him .

Legitimate questions
1) when has a sign and trade actually happened in the NHL?
2) why does it add value to the player when the team could just sign them in the offseason?
The only reason why sign and trades happen in the NBA is for cap reasons.

Hall to Pittsburgh as a rental is a possibility if 1/2 retained. The pieces would obviously be different.

The only reason why sign and trades happen in the NBA is for cap reasons.

sign and trades are done in the NBA due to the cap rules on exceeding caps based on salary structures.

in deals teams do ask for permission to find out terms in getting an extension prior to a deal because of debate on value giving up given uncertainty in resigning.

an example of this was buffalos trade for ROR who had 1 full yr left before being a UFA. He was traded for 3 young prospects + a late 1st ( today’s draft spot). That was too much to give up for a one yr rental but fair if they knew he’d get signed to an extension.

it will be more common going forward because teams now CANT attach conditional picks if a player gets signed to an extension.

in the passed you traded a high profile player teams attached conditionals on if a player gets resigned. Buffalo did thus when they traded Ryan’s Miller and Evander Kane. San Jose did this in the Karlsson trade that kicked in when he got resigned.

It would be a way to prevent a team from resigning a player viewed as someone they would trade off then resign. An example in this would be Buffalo-Toronto and Ullmark. Buffalo might say trade him for a 2nd to Toronto and Thrn added condition if 2 1sts if he gets resigned by Toronto. Now they can’t do that, so they want full potential value now.

Mark Stone to Vegas comes to mind, though he did sign after getting traded, but pretty sure they traded for him with the understanding he'd sign.
