Can I just say that the NHL gave one big finger to the Leafs? Considering what the habs got, the Leafs got a knock off winter classic and no other event despite applying for everything.

A lot of people said it might be because they'll get things for next year, but it's not looking like it. Toronto hasn't held an event in ages and even if they did, 100 years as a franchise should have had at least some recognition from the NHL especially considering they are one of the highest grossing franchises keeping the NHL afloat.

The Leafs aren't good enough to warrant an event like this.

Good call going with Tampa.

They have 3 of the upcoming stars in the NHL on their team. It's a world class hockey city with passionate fans. I get it's fun to **** on the team, but for a minute stop being like that and understand after being garbage for 10 years it would be nice to be able to enjoy hockey again, and getting at least one event from the NHL would be nice especially during their 100 year anniversary.

[MOD] you guys had the ASG in 2000 and the World Cup this year that noone in Toronto cared about. Don't forget you were a host city in 2004 WCOH.No team has had two events like that since 2000 [MOD]

Are the Leafs not putting on their own centennial celebrations?

Hosting the World Cup and Winter Classic in back to back years seems like a pretty big gesture from the NHL.

Winter classic should have been toronto v buffalo in toronto. NHL/NBC is the worst. Can't wait til that contract is over.

Is there a list of ASG "droughts"? Is this Tampa's first time? I feel like the NY area hasn't gotten one in forever.

Tampa had it in 1999. The Last NY-area ASG was in 1994 at MSG. As for drought, it depends on how you quantify it. Anaheim, Arizona, and Winnipeg have never hosted one. Meanwhile Buffalo (1978), Chicago (1991), Detroit (1980), Edmonton (1989), New Jersey (1984), New York Islanders (1983), Philadelphia (1992), Pittsburgh (1990), St. Louis (1988), and Washington (1982) have all gotten new arenas since they last hosted the ASG.

The biggest obstacle is the NHL celebrating their own centennial, and several franchises celebrating their 50th. I think the precedent set for Montreal in 2009 was ******** to begin with, but I can understand why the Leafs would be offended. I would have liked to see Toronto host the draft, I would have paid a lot of money to go to that.

Our last one was 19 years ago, In the Ice Palace.

Which is the same arena as Amalie, so this will now be two ASGs held there. That makes it only the second active arena to have hosted multiple ASGs (Staples has also hosted two) and Tampa one of 8 cities to have hosted multiple times along with Chicago, Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, Montreal, St. Louis, and Toronto.

The draft is what I'm most unimpressed with. Yeah Chicago hasn't hosted it in a while, but nothing was impeding them from hosting it next year. Not to mention the Leafs were thought to be picking high again so that should've been more incentive to award them the draft.

The All-Star game I couldn't care less about, especially next year.

It has been updated dramatically since the last time we had it here.
