I think The Oilers need to make some changes, and they are in need of vets big time.

Trade: Varlamov, Beauchemin & Iginla to Edmonton for Yakupov and their 1st (they need vets big time) - also would need to lose salary.
Iginla needs to agree also I know

Trade: Avs 1st rounder + a prospect or Grigorenko to Tampa Bay for Drouin

Draft: Use Oils draft pick to acquire Jakob Chychrun

Free Agent: Acquire Hiller to backup Pickard (only if very cheap) - like Jiggy

Free Agent: IF we have space will all the salary reduction: Goligoski

Promotion: Rantanen & Zadorov

Next season:

Drouin - Mackinnon - Boedker
Landeskog - Duchene - Yakupov
Matthias - Soderberg - Rantanen
Mcleod - Mitchell - Comeau

Goligoski - Johnson

Trading EJ makes sense if they are certain he is on the decline. You have to make that deal when his value is the highest. Once EJ loses his legs he will struggle to stay in the top 4. He simply does not have enough skill elsewhere to overcome losing something crucial like skating.

That really doesn't fix the problem though. If EJ hypothetically declines a massive amount, that just means the D went from one of the worst in the NHL to one of the worst in the AHL. They still have to fix the rest of the problem.

Might as well address the problem they know they have now, and come to that hypothetical bridge with EJ when they get to it.

Any trade scenario I've ever brought up with EJ includes us getting Hamonic. Whether it's an EJ/Hamonic trade or two separate deals but if we can make that happen I'd do it. I think EJ's the better overall player but he will break down early and the difference in cap space between the two are major. Hamonic is an ideal long term Zadorov partner.
