Your bar for elite is pretty low if you include Larkin and Konecny as those are lower grade top line players.

Outside of Thompson, you'd look at Quinn as having the potential to be elite moreso than Benson. Benson is more tenacious but Quinn's overall game is a higher tier
Debatable re: Benson and Quinn. Benson’s ceiling is through the roof and at the same age Quinn was in the CHL.

Quinn is bigger, faster, much better shot. There's a reason he put up 50+ in the OHL. Using Benson making the roster as an 18yo is a weak argument, if they were the same age competing for the same spot it'd be more relevant.

I'd put them together and let them grow into one of the league's best 2-way forward lines.

Every playoff team in the East has at least one elite forward talent. Boston - Pastrnak. Florida - Barkov/Tkachuk/Reinhart. TBL - Kucherov/Stamkos/Point. TOR - Marner, Matthews, Nylander. CAR - Aho. PHI - Konecny. DET - Larkin. NYR - Panarin. NJD - Hughes.

Of all our guys, prospects included, Tage (and possibly Benson) is the only one I see with potential of being in that elite category, which he has already been in for one season.

Captain obvious post but we desperately need him to be elite for us again next year, not just good. The game-breaker type talents really do make a difference and not sure we’ll have success with just a smattering of 60 point guys.

Maybe 47+47 is not to be repeated but we need at least point per game. Especially considering his defensive game is already… on the lower end compared to the other top centres.
I get what you’re saying. But it’s not about one player. Those guys aren’t doing that by themselves. They’re producing as part of a top line or on the team’s top PP unit or both.

Tage was part of one of the top offensive lines in the NHL for almost 1 1/3 seasons. Its success was about the play of all 3 of them. It wasn’t Tage carrying them. Their play didn't drop off when Tage didn’t center them at the end of last season. Thats because 2/3rds of the line was still together and playing well.

We haven’t seen that top line this season. All three have struggled 5v5 and have been on a crappy PP. The combo of those two things has cratered ther production from last season.

Specifically about Tage production, its cratered this due to his poor 5v5 play, injury and the PP sucking.

Tage just isn’t right this year. Not scoring on the shots he makes regularly last year. Not nearly as good protecting and maintaining the puck either. No luck either really. He will rebound next year. How far, idk but there’s no way he is anything less than a 30-40 goal and assist player.
