Hey guys and gals! Who would you rank as your top 5-ish prospects? Going to a few pre-season games and curious to know who to look out for and curious to know who the guys are overseas I should be paying attention to as well. Thanks!
So I don't have Barre-Boulet as a prospect anymore because he's 24 and played more games for the Lightning than the Crunch last year even though he's Calder eligible. Our prospect pool is pretty weak, there's no high end talent in the group but a few of high floor guys who could make the league.
1. Katchouk - most well rounded player we have, can play in all situations and all 3 forward positions if needed. Has enough offensive skill to play in the top 6 but most likely is more middle 6 guy. A Killorn type who won't wow you at all but will be a consistent producer.
2. Goncalves- really like his potential especially offensively, can be the one player who makes the top 6. Didn't break out till his overage year but that hasn't stopped any of our guys from becoming legit players. With our lack of good C's in the system he can quickly make his way through the system and into the league sooner. Need to see more of him in the pro game to have a comparison.
3. Raddysh- has the size and skill to be an impact player but lacks the consistency to have reached that potential yet and may never do. Skating has improved as well as his all around game to where he can still be a middle or bottom 6 player who flashes his skills a lot. A potential Panik type who may not make it here but will find success on other teams around the league.
4. Thompson- smooth skater two way defender. Only 6' so not our typical sized defenseman we've been deploying. Not overly physical but uses the body when needed but has good puck skills to retain the puck and alleviate danger. Good offensive skills but nothing that stands out so won't be asked to carry that load. Should become a better Ben Thomas. Reliable guy at both ends, nothing that stands out but nothing to really hold him back. With the lack of RD I the system and being better at this age he should move up the system quickly and could be getting a look in 3 seasons.
5. Finley- has the size and skating to be at worst a 4C, so he gets the slot due to the high floor. Not physical for his size but uses his size well to impact the game. Has soft hands and puck skills for a big guy. Would like to see him work on his play in his own zone and on the dot. Could become a specialist given his size if he can excel in those areas. Not sure who he compares to because we haven't had a forward that big in awhile. Also want to see how he does coming off his injury last season.
