what a shocker, the only one bashing him is a tampa fan. didnt see that coming. come on, 20-30 pts. yea, he isnt an offensive threat like zherdev, but he is gonna score more than that. lets say he is on the first line next year with nash and z. you think he scores 20 pts still. i dont.Vincent_TheGreat said:If by stud you mean, a very good defensive player with size and 20-30 points a year then yes. I however do not think that is a stud, nor do I think he is anywhere close to being a stud.

Yeah, I think so. I think if a coach can get the laziness out of him he should be a good one. But people have also been saying that about Chris Gratton forever.#2 said:I know he isnt a prospect anymore but any who, what do you guys think of Alexander Svitov do you think he will become a stud player in the future?

Quite honestly, the guy has remarkable raw tools. He's strong on his skates, has pretty good vision, is above-avg defensively already, and his wrister is VERY underrated.
However, his problem in Tampa was that he had no drive. He was like a lamb on his skates and we never saw the rugged Svitov that he was billed upon drafted.
It seems so easy to correct, doesn't it?
Don't be so sure.
With Omsk, he was pigeonholed as a checking liner. With TB, he was a checking liner. With Russia in the WJCs, he was a checking liner. With Hamilton, word was from Jarvis that his offensive game and overall drive really came around. So much so TB recalled him earlier than expected, expecting to see this "new" Alexander Svitov. Nothing.
I watched him a lot on the dish with CLB and he was doing the same things. He plays like he's a kid in a men's league (which is true, but doesn't have to be played that way) in that he's very tentative and unaggressive offensively. He's actually TOO quick to return to defensive responsibilities. He stays TOO high in the slot when he could park his rump in front of the blue ice and get scoring chances. He also has a hard time finding passing lanes to set up a shot for himself. He stays in the high slot ready to get back - just like he did on the bottom lines in Omsk and TB.
If he can get that confidence and drive to play aggressively both offensively and physically, he could be the player billed when drafted. However, until I see that from him, sadly I project him to be a 25-30 point defensive forward.
