Totes! + Yuk-apov's leeching 'abilities' is NOT what our team needs.

Scoring is right at the top of the list of things we need to add to this team. We scored 4 goals combined in the 4 games we lost these last playoffs. We scored 5 goals combined in the 4 games we lost to the Rangers the year before. We scored 2 goals combined in the 4 games we lost to Boston the year before that.

Scoring has been a huge issue once games matter for three consecutive years now.

Again, that's not to say Yakupov is the right answer. For one, he'll probably cost too much if he's even available after the GM change. But we should not be immediately turning away anyone who has a good chance of coming in here and scoring goals.

Watch Sutter get traded in a package for Staal, this board would riot

For depth and balanc silly! Gotta have that dangerous third line even if the top.two still have giant holes in them.

But still, what's the deal? I'd do it if salary is retained and we didn't give up much other than Sutter. It wouldn't happen in that scenario, but still.

Some complain occasionally about Malkin's rabid contingent of fanboys.

But they have nothing on Staal's entourage. Who still persist to this day years after Jordan told the team to sit and spin and ran off only to prove conclusively that he's not at all what he was so convinced he was.

Obviously I'd take him at 2M a year retained straight up for Sutter to play EXCLUSIVELY on the third line. But that's hilariously out-to-lunch.

If you could guarantee me that Staal would play like 2009 Staal and not "I wanna be a Top-6 player" Staal, I would take him back in a heartbeat.

Same.

With salary retained. A lot of it.

Otherwise I don't see the point. We aren't looking for elite third line centers. I hope.

What's the package?

Hard to judge. I think a clearer picture would emerge if they decide to trade Eric and start a rebuild. Aged Eric...Jordan...Ward...I think they could get a decent return out of trading them that could help set them up better longer term. I don't see a contender coming out that roster with a simple retool.

Eric to Toronto for Kadri, 5OV, +

Jordan to Pit for Sutter, Bennett, 1st 2016, 3rd 2016

Ward to Edmonton or Minnesota for 1st 2015

They could get a decent roster in a couple years out of that. Kadri is 1C, Sutter is 2C which stinks but with their wings and those draft picks I think they'd do ok.

I'd take 2007 wing Staal too. Staal-Malkin-Perron...okay.

So they supposedly want to lock up cole long term. Why?? Qualify him as a rfa and then go from there. He wasn't horrible last year but he didn't exactly force his hand either.

I don't know why people around here still say things like this without a link to back it up. It's not that I don't believe you, but I'd like to read it nonetheless.

The scary thing is that shero offered him the big money, it was staal that refused.

Because he's one year away from UFA-status. Better to lock him up long-term (anything between two to four years) now than head into the season with Cole as top-4 D-man and upcoming UFA-status. Buy some UFA years now before he's really established himself. And not risk him having a career year like Niskanen did and then outpricing himself from our plans.

So maybe.something like.1.5 a year for a.couple of years?

Leave it to this org to think freaking niskannen was the difference though. Not like he was involved in another blown 3-1 series lead debacle again this year.

Pardon my grumpy tone today, crap day at work and not even noon yet.

The Penguins see upside in Cole and they don't want to make the same mistake (if you want to call it that) we made with Niskanen. Apparently ownership liked Niskanen and wanted him to stay but Shero didn't try to sign him 2 summers ago.

So they want to "right the wrong" looking at Cole as a 2nd chance.

At least that's my thoughts on the Cole situation.

Because it might cost cheaper that way then waiting and signing him when he hits UFA.

If he is in the plans long term, then just sign him
