I misread the subject line as:

Surprised that DP not w/ ANYorg in any capacity?

But, no, I'm not surprised.

It's too bad he wasn't a plumber or typist or restaurant worker. They get the fulfillment of a job they have to slave over until the day they die, ever changing employers, getting their wages cut and benefits taken away while trying to stay above water.

Yes I too feel bad for Rick. As he cruises the Med on his yacht named "Eat Cake" eating creme brulee and drinking Cristal, his eyes must cloud a little and he must feel some discomfort at having had his dreams die playing a game for a living. The Duck liver pate and dinner parties in the Hamptons are ruined forever because he can never add the Stanley Cup to his swimming pool filled with gold.

Why didn't he simply become a bicycle repair man, or sewer worker, or sweat shop sewing specialist? Yes, I feel bad for Rick too. That kind of longing must be worse than spending all day in a field gathering rice while contracting cholera. The horror.

lol, upward social comparison much? I've known and worked with plenty of rich people, they are some of the most miserable people on earth. It's true, money does NOT buy happiness. Not saying that it can't help you live a happy life, but people often make the mistake of thinking that money alone can make a person happy. Rick made some pretty borderline suicidal comments, yet the first thing people say is "He's depressed with THAT money?". Yes, he's a human being, and money isn't enough in and of itself to fulfill people.

That's why I said, I hope Rick finds himself a new passion, it will do a guy like him some good. Obviously he has a nice retirement fund to take all the time in the world to find something else he loves.

this is OT and i DO NOT want this to turn into a bashing DP thread....but i am absolutely SHOCKED that we have not heard any news in any capacity on DP.....i was really assuming wang would throw him a bone and give him some sort of apprentice role within the organization....i do not believe he has retired, but he is not even playing in the ECHL or anything right now...

does anyone have any insight or comments? i am truly just wondering...was always a big proponent of his

**ONCE AGAIN,THIS THREAD WAS NOT MADE FOR OPINIONS ON WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF HIM AS A PLAYER OR PERSON...SIMPLY ON HIS STATUS NOW**

DiPietro has given zero indication that he is ready to retire. Even after his lsst few injuries, he has come out and said he is not retiring.

I'm not surprised.. I mean DP still thinks he's got something left and I bet he's still a little upset bent bought out.

I'm sure its gonna be a couple years before the olive branch is given out/accepted between the team and him. Right now both sides need time to distance themselves from the drama around the whole situation.

I think eventually Rick is going to go to broadcasting and not into management/coaching. He's really bright, obviously has the face for it as well. Also seems to follow and like sports as well (from past interviews and tidbits). I remember he did a little guest spot on VS. a while back and he did very good for a player.

I'd take him over Goring anyday. Honestly I could see him being really good in the booth. But I think his competitive nature wont let him give up on the dream (and who can really blame him).

Why would you be surprised? The guy was done about 3 years ago. He's not even worth an ECHL roster spot at this point.

I'm still hoping that he one day (soon) takes over for Butch goring. He'll make an excellent color commentator one day.

I made the same mistake..

The Islanders don't want DP around, and DP doesn't want to be around. If I was to rank the NHL teams in order of who DP would be likeliest to work for in 2013-14 or next season, the Islanders would be 30th out of the 30.

However, the more time that passes, the more palatable it would be to all parties if DP came back into the org.. I couldn't see it even possibly happening for at least 5 years though.. after 10 years, all will be forgiven/forgotten and he'll be the guy we all remember who gave his heart for the team and he'd be welcomed back by all..

In my opinion though the odds are better than a coin flip that he won't ever be back in any capacity with us..

Where is everyone getting this "he'll be a good TV guy"?

why?

how do we know this? Did I miss something?

Again -- frankly.. if I was an Isles fan, and saw him doing games on TV -- Id get pissed off all over again..

I get that, but the reason he would feel that way would not be because life bent him over and gave it to him in the keister, it would 100% be because he was detached from reality and had a bourgeois view of life. I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with people with real problems, trying to figure out how to get enough money to feed their family, or find resources to beat cancer, etc. Sometimes people like that go over the edge and hurt themselves or their family in a misguided desire to protect them from having nothing, protect them from hard core despair.

Rick, unless he does a Mike Tyson and throws his money away, can not only ensure he and his family never have those kinds of problems, but reach out and help others. Helping just one family in a really **** place in life is better than winning the cup. If I could encourage him to do one thing, it would be that, and it would put all the self absorbed pity party crap in his head 10' under where it belongs.

He needs to get over his anger before they even consider him. Hopefully, we will have a new owner who will embrace the dynasty players before that happens.
I know, I am dreaming.

I am still trying to figure out why Mad Mike traded away a franchise goalie in Luongo (I know Roberto was only 20 at the time and had only played 20 some odd games before the deal) and dipped 15 years in to DP. I hope DP stays away from the Isles personally.

Because he is Mad Mike. He really saw DP as the best goalie in the World.

You can just see the priorities of some people on this board, shallow enough to think that money is all there is in the world. It's obvious by DP's comments and work ethic that money was never the issue or he wouldn't have signed a 15 year contract like he did. HE would have waited and pushed for the huge payday (especially since for the most part successful goalies have super long careers). So for some people to say he's crying over nothing because he's rich is really sad and pathetic. When a guy busts his ass to get to the professional level and that falls apart because his body fails him there is absolutely every reason to be depressed about that.

I agree with previous posters that he is probably still weighing his options and if he does choose to retire I'm sure we will see him around hockey somewhere. I just don't think he's ready to throw in the towel yet, but we'll see...

If he tries throwing the towel, his arm will fall off.

DP was ready to play for Boston when the Samsonov deal was being discussed. Let's not elevate Winthrop Jesus any more than he's already elevated himself. He's gone. We have good goalies coming through the pipeline {despite hysteria}. Let him go.

If he listened to the first half dozen goalie coaches, he wouldn't be on crutches.

The rant above aside, I DO wish him luck, but the post I replied to is the single biggest reason anyone can't stand the guy.....well, that and the AWFUL goals he gave up.

Do you remember way back DP was being discussed in a trade with Beantown that would send Samsonov here? DP had a curt comment about just wanting to play, here "or wherever."

It's been so long that I just don't remember. Too bad that trade never materialized. Would've saved this team a big headache.

The Isles were dumb enough to distance themselves from Dynasty player and a certain No. 16. Hopefully, they realize DP is really a symbol of everything wrong with the organization under Wang and he is not part of anything going forward.

CHI finally smartened up and brought back and respected it's cherished players. NYI will be wise enough to do the same, especially under Yormark in Brooklyn.

Most of those guys want nothing to do with Wang because of Wang and because of Milbury.
