Line one has the better sniper but loses their best puck winner in Landeskog, which may significantly alter the dynamic of how that line plays. Line 2 doesn't have a pure sniper but has a guy who is amazing at winning battles down low and coming out with the puck.

I'm not sure Pastrnak replacing Landeskog makes that line better, to be honest. Now, I take Pastrnak over Landeskog 10 time out of 10 if you are asking me which one to build around and who do I take for my team, but line-up construction isn't as simple as putting the 3 best players together like NHL 19.

I'd take Pastrnak, Mackinnon and Rantanen. I don't think McDavid is that much better than Mackinnon to justify taking that line when Pastrnak and Rantanen are much better than Tkachuk and Marner

Fixed

McDavid

Mackinnon
Pastrnak/Rantanen
Marner
Tkachuk

Marner has 5 more points in 1 more game, is significantly better defensively and doesnt have 2 linemates better than him to play with

Objectively Pastrnak is and has been the better player so far

Yup 28 in 24 >>>> 33 in 25. Checks out.

I guess Kadri and Marleau > Marchand and Bergeron as well? Otherwise it could be conceivable that QoT last season would benefit Pasta

so are assist now more valuable than Goals,

weren't Leaf fans arguing about this (for Matthews) just a few months ago....

He has 25 primary assists, he leads the NHL in primary points. A 1st assist is as valuable as a goal, not sure how you can watch hockey and not recognize that.

There's a reason why i listed 3 seasons (sample size)

Sample sizes are great when you include context. Pastrnak is worse than both Bergeron and Marchand, not that he is being carried by them but quality of teammates improves offensive production. Similar to the increase we have seen in Marner this season by having JT with him. Now consider that Pasta has 2 and Marner has a 4th liner as his opposite winger. Not to mention Marner is a significantly more complete player than Pasta.

are Leafs fans now backpedaling from their own arguments that goals are more important than assists....

Dont generalize. I never said goals are more important than primary assists.

You are proving my point genius. Pastrnak had the benefit of playing with Marchand and Bergeron, Marner played with Marleau and Kadri, who while good arent the same calibre as the Boston pair.

and Pastrnak leads the league in Goals

Marner has the most primary assists since Lemieux in 2002-03 after 25 games, more than Crosby in 2010-11 and has more points and primary points than Pastrnak while being better defensively. He's a better player, but yes they're both great.

90% of Pastrnaks Goals are individual efforts. You would know this if you bothered looking at his goal highlights this year and last year.
You probably never noticed that Marchand and Bergeron's production skyrocked ONLY after Pastrnak(healthy) joined their line

My good friend is a bruins fan and probably watch the Bruins more than any team outside Toronto. Marchand and Bergeron's production skyrocketed when used in an offensive capacity for the first time in their careers. I am sure Pasta had something to do with it, like I said he is not a passenger but still clearly the worst of the 3. But the main reason was that they were no longer being used solely as a shutdown pair.

And yes, Pasta is good, but Marchand and Bergeron are a contributing factor to that. 90% is a hyperbole, but even the cases of individual efforts a lot has to do with the other 2 drawing away the opposition. Teams cant double team Pasta like they can other great goal scorers because Marchand and Bergeron are a similar threat.

Pastrnak and Marchand went 5 games without a goal when Bergeron got injured. Of course he can create on his own, not as consistently as Marner can though. He'll be the better offensive player for the rest of their careers.

I’d love to see that first line play. Marner and Tkachuk would be great together me thinks.
