And going to arbitration is obviously much better for PK. So he's not going to move that much. And frankly, seeing how dumb Bergevin was for Emelin and DD....he shouldn't move either.

Thought I'd bring back the above from WS as it's an interesting take on the type of leverage Subban can exert. With the Habs only able to control Subban for two more years, push will come to shove. How far is Bergevin willing to bend, to ink Subban long-term?

If MB bends for Subban, he'll have to bend for everyone, which is why he needs to stand firm against Subban, to show that everyone on the Habs is held to the same standard, whether you're Malhotra or Subban :sarcasm:

That would be my offer to Subban:

Subban: 8 years/64M (8 AAV)

2014-2015 6,750,000 (like Price)
2015-2016 7,000,000 (like Price)
2016-2017 7,000,000 (like Price)
2017-2018 7,000,000 (like Price)
2018-2019 8,500,000
2019-2020 8,500,000
2020-2021 9,500,000
2021-2022 9,750,000

Give the man 8 years and open the wallet up. He's the best talent we've had in a very long time on the point and he's already been through the bridge deal. It's time he cashes in, and it's time the Habs pay him market value.

7.6 for the first 3 years, moving up to 8.5 for the next 5. He's the Franchise now.

If I'm PK, I'm not sure I want to sign an 8y deal.

I'd go a bit less. The first four years the same and then $8,250,000 for the next three and $8,500,000 for the last year and that would equal to a $7.6 million cap hit.

7.6M would be underpayment. Actually, 8 years at 8M is Subban being nice with the team. 8x8M would look like a steal in years 3-8.

For a wealthy team like Montreal, I can't think of a hockey-related advantage to back loading contracts.

Psychological.

Since Subban is an immature and selfish *****, management has to make sure his salary is steadily going up. Otherwise he won't put the necessary effort to remain at the top of his game. If Subban's salary ever goes down even by 1$, we all know he's gonna stop training and putting in some effort. It's all part of the plan to make him not only a better player, but also a better human being.

I thought it was pretty well documented. :sarcasm:

Do you mean from the standpoint of standing to gain more, by looking for a new deal two years from now?

So sick and tired of this crap. [MOD] Bergevin needs to stop ********** around and give Subban a fair market contract this time. As much as Therrien did his best to drive down Subban's value last year, Subban has proven his worth. Get this done, Bergevin.

If he signs a 5 year deal now, it would be easier for him to sign a 8 year deal when he turn 30. Therefore maximizing his earning potential.
