A slow and soft player who is a good passer and can handle the puck well around the net. Can’t play defense to save his life but when given the offensive opportunity can definitely put up points. Not good enough or complete enough to be a #2 center but doesn’t have the compete/defense to be a #3 or #4 center.

There’s a reason why no one will even trade a mid-round pick for him. Contending hopeful teams should stay away, he just can’t fit.

now that Brinksy, Dach and Strome are gone

"interesting" to see the 22-23 forward line up....

something like?

Reichel-Toews-Kane
????-Johnson-Entwistle
Katchouk-Borgström-Raddysh
Khaira-Lafferty-Johnson

???? = either Kurashev or Kubalik?
both contracts ended after this season

#13 Slavin?
#14 Barratt?

So are we qualifying Kubalik? We’ll still need to reach the cap floor as more trades are coming. With Kane likely leaving, park Kubalik on the right side powerplay and get his value back up.

The one thing Colliton really got right (besides being patient to get enough sample size to prove bad ideas were bad) was proving you couldn't put Strome at C and expect not to be crushed there and elsewhere 5 on 5 because of the deployment he needs to thrive.

The Strome Kool aid chugging was exhausting. This was my favorite news on Thursday.

He's an NHL player and hope he has a fine career elsewhere, I wish him well and I'm happy this chapter is over.

If goal is to suck why not bring back Strome for another year as #1C?

If he is as terrible as people around here, make him out to be why are we moving on from him?
Hawks can probably get a better pick from some team wanting to dump a $3.6 contract, than they can by trading Strome. Simply a better use of the money. I'm not completely opposed to re-signing him for dirt cheap and then unloading him later.

Well said.

Lazerus has fueled way too many ridiculous meatball narratives on Strome's nice run of 10 weeks against 3rd and 4th lines, mostly in minutes that meant nothing...before stumbling most of the last 15 games.

I'm pretty sure LaRussa could outcoach King with the same line up because he would know not to throw Strome at 1C 5 on 5, at least 1/2 the time.

Pen gave Rakell a long term extension @5 million per for 6 years...Strome was a bit higher than hom on points ...so so score just under 59 points and your are worth $5mil per according to value Pitt just put on Rakell.

Maybe Hawks scared Stronecwoukd have got near tgatvin arbitration....so they let him go to ufa for nothing...Now of clubs Want Strome tge Rakell precent on value may just have set the market price.

The pointers.. in a tight cap league either you pay to equivalency value given by other teans for a level of production...or you refuse to pay that and go with a cheaper pkayer.

So it will be ibterestingvtovsee where Stronevkands in free agency and whether his agent got equivalent market value or whether too many teams are capped out or will be next seadon and cannot take on such an equivalent price for his level of production..

If few buyers at market oroce he may need to swallow his pride and take less justcto secure an NHL job...but if tgere are enough biddibgvteansxwith cao room then somebody will pay market price to land hom.

One pissibkexreason Hawks did not want to give hom anywhere near a $5mil deal on a longer term woukd bectgat IF they land Bedard next draft he woujdxgovstraightvto tge show and after hisxELC uo y ou gotta oay Geberatiobal money ...so right back in cap he'll pisdibly unless capvrealkyvgoesxway upby tgen
Plus kerpibgvthisex50npiibtsxwoukdcmitigatexagaivstctgextabj for Bedard.

Anyway curious to see who pays for Strome tomorrow and how muchvterm tgeyvgivechin after tge Rakell precedent set by tge Oens for similar production.

IfcStrinecgets more consistent tgroughcaxwhokexseason then you get a 70-75oointscguyvandvifvyou pay just $5million AAV long term you get a steal.

...so why didn't we get a 6th round pick?

Probably to give Strome more options as an UFA. They could trade him for a sixth and that team could qualify him and he might not want to play there. Gives free agent player a positive sense that the Blackhawks will take care of them.

That's true. Gotta maintain relations so that Strome can join the reunion when Cat comes back to Chicago

You spent the time to make paragraphs out of this mess but have 3 complete full sentences in binary code...

And for all the people criticizing the Hawks for not QOing Strome, he received 100k less than his QO on the open market. Sure, they could have signed him and tried to flip him but they already couldn't get anything for him at this deadline. There are better sign and flip UFAs than Strome if that is the Hawks plan. Lots of stat watchers around the league who don't understand the context around Strome's production and his overall game.

The issue wasn't even the QO. It was the arbitration case. With his body of work and comparables around the league, he would have gotten 4M+ easily.
