New President for Stockton Heat:

For Immediate Release
Wednesday, June 16, 2021

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Stockton Heat, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announce today that Jamie Cochrane has been named President. Cochrane, who has overseen the Heat’s business operations since February of 2020, has spent nearly seven years with Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation working closely with the Stockton Heat, the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.

“I’m excited to begin this new role in Stockton,” said Cochrane, who along with his wife and daughter, will move to Stockton from their home in Calgary. “In my time working with the Heat I’ve developed a great appreciation for the team’s passionate fan base, the City of Stockton’s vibrant community, and the opportunity for accelerated growth. I look forward to deepening the connection between the team and Stockton and the surrounding communities, starting with a return to play in front of our fans back on home ice at the Stockton Arena later this year.”

In addition to his work with Calgary Sports and Entertainment, Cochrane has contributed efforts to raise awareness for causes such as the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, ALS, and ‘Movember’ men’s mental health initiatives. Cochrane also volunteers his time as a Big Brother as part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation.

“It’s important for the Heat to be a leader in supporting community causes, returning the investment the City and fans have made in us” said Cochrane. “Throughout the first five seasons of Heat hockey in Stockton, the City and its residents have embraced us with open arms. We are thankful for the support we have received since the start and are committed to continuing where we left off in the shortened 2019-20 season.”

The Heat’s return to Stockton Arena for the 2021-22 season comes with a new one-year lease between the club and the City of Stockton. Heat365 Membership renewals are ongoing, with more information available at StocktonHeat.com/Heat365.

I met Jamie before leaving for Henderson. He is a stand up guy who really wants the Heat to succeed and build a long-term relationship with the City of Stockton. He has a tall task ahead of him trying to improve season ticket, single game attendance, and in game experience. He will be a good replacement for the idiot who now runs the Colorado Eagles.

The Heat have their work cut out for them. Their attendance for the first two home games this weekend was less than 2,100 COMBINED for both games. That must be a AHL worst record to start the season. Good luck to Jamie and the ticket sales team this year, they are going to need it.

Certainly a "record" that a simple search of the League stats will not yield.

The Black Cloud of Petrovek still hangs over the franchise.

Upgrades to Stockton Arena planned. Perhaps an opportunity to get the AHL back. Does anyone have Petrovek's number?

I reckon anybody who has followed U.S. minor pro hockey closely for significant periods of time over the last 36 years has that man's number.

The new arena for the Barracuda surprisingly didn't increase their attendance, they are still last in the AHL. Maybe the Barracuda should move to Stockton, they could probably average 4K or more if done right.

San José wants their prospects in their front yard. They don't care at all about attendance. They dumped them in what is essentially a glorified rec rink with extra seating. Where the Barracuda attendance sits in their list of organizational priorities is on like page 48 after "contingency plans if Logan Couture eats so much garlic that a vampire Joe Thornton is unable to attend practices" and just before "Steve Wozniak-themed intermission events."

The situation is essentially the below:

Everyone: the San José Barracuda would draw more fans elsewhere

Here's the thing... NHL teams don't care about AHL attendance if they own the team. It's all gravy if the team draws good.

Stockton's best case scenario is if the ECHL comes back to the West Coast.

Appears the work has been going well. Attendance was 6600 for last Friday's game against Coachella Valley.

Others have mentioned the San Jose attitude on attendance, but probably more importantly from a business side, they're not going to spend a nice chunk of change to construct an arena like that for the Barracuda just to move them somewhere else.

It would take an extremely sweetheart of a deal from the city of Stockton to even get in the conversation with the Sharks. And a type of deal like that would not be worth it from the city perspective.

Huh? How could that be? Stockton lost their team last season.
