Seems like Howard, Mason or Miller fit the idea. Could possibly see Hutton on a 2 year deal since you wont see Sorokin until 20-21 season anyway
If you think Steve Mason is a better alternative I really don’t know what to tell you..

If you are looking at tanking then why not just trade for a young back up like Packard to add to your stable?
This idea of trading for a crappy goalie sounds like losing Taveres is part of the OP's plan.
Even if that is the case it might be better for Barzal to try and have a good team, he'll be under enough pressure losing the shelter of JT, why make things even harder? If the Islanders lose JT and ruin Barzal it's game over.

It's a stopgap.... the guy coming through soon holds the KHL all time best GAA in the playoffs (1.55). Lowest GAA in a season (1.06 as a 20 year old) and 2nd best SV% ever recorded in the KHL in a season (.953 as a 20 year old) to go along with the 2nd most shutouts in a season (10 as a 20 year old). He's 22 and holds the 2nd or 3rd career best GAA in what many consider the 2nd best league in the world.
The other guy coming as soon as next season? Broke Lundqvists record in the SHL for GAA last season on his way to backstop HV71 to a championship as a 21 year old. (1.34 .943SV%). I believe he just barely missed the SV% record.

Linus Soderstrom is here now, but was injured most of last year. He needs to be eased into the lineup, but the Islanders cannot rely on him without having a plan B.
Who said the Islanders were looking to tank? Do you see a top 15 goaltender available anywhere? The Islanders have two studs just about ready to break into the league, they just need a decent stopgap.
Compared to what? Who is better that is both available and willing to sign for two years or less?

The Jet will need to make cap space and have Comrie in the minors who is probably ready to take on the backup role Mason for a late pick could work for everyone.
Cameron Talbot + Andrej Sekera for Boychuk + 2nd
