No way in hell he gets picked up.

Don't really see a future in the NHL for him. At some point you just have to accept that the kid doesn't have "it". He's been given so many chances.

Would be interesting if Calgary does claim him, any chance he could turn around and actually play the Avs tomorrow night?

I think he clears and perhaps they trade him for another AHL/call-up type with another team.

If someone were to pick him up my guesses would be Calgary, maybe NYI or Buffalo.

Islanders already have Donovan and Brennan(both guys who have a more successful AHL career) fighting for a roster spot(and one might be sent down if Reinhart makes the team)

You guys know that he's still a lot younger than either Holden or Redmond where/are as they broke into this team, right? And those guys are just starting to become genuinely good third pairing guys who may be able to deputize above that station temporarily.

Elliott will go down to the AHL and outperform noreau at that level because he's confident down there in a way he isn't with the puck against nhlers. If he can ever just do the things he tries to do for the monster in the bigs he'll suddenly "get it" and become a very dangerous third pairing pp specialist, like a rich man's MAB.

This really sucks.

After all, I am a bit surprised that even through the years of "re-building", the Avs couldn't offer him more NHL minutes, even if only on the PP and on offensive zone starts.
Maybe it's just me, and I'm definitely not an expert or anything, but I think he might have gotten used to the level and physicality.

Glad Barrie worked out, those two were my favourite Avs prospects to follow over the last years.

Good luck, Stefan (no matter where he ends up).

Rushing him into sacco's hands is part of why his confidence is where it is. He's never been strong for his size and defensively aggressive like Barrie, but when he first came up he was able to bring a spark with the puck for a handful of games.

But continuously being pushed around defensively cause he wasn't physically ready and because he had Sacco "explaining" what he needed to correct have left him only capable of playing that aggressive attacking dman style when he doesn't see a bunch of nhlers across the ice from him and that big weird Avs' A on he front of his chest. He's shown that that guy isn 't gone in the AHL, but it's like he's terrified of ****ing up and getting humiliated by the pros.

Barrie has always been a ballsy and combative little dude, it's why I liked him more when we got em, and thought that if either should get rushed it should be Barrie. Him being more intuitive on the ice also helped him adapt in those early, instead of getting the deer-in-the-headlights thing with see with Stef.

I remember when I said he might turn into a MAB and people got upset... good times. Now we're hoping he becomes a slightly better version of MAB.

You can't really blame Sacco for this... even at the AHL level he shown very little. Up until this past season he had a better NHL career than an AHL(which isn't saying a whole lot). I'd be very surprised if he becomes anything more than average in the NHL.

Other than his wrist shot and skating nothing is NHL quality. His defensive awareness is amateurish, his offensive awareness is nothing to write home about considering he's a offensive guy, he has no slap shot, his passing/vision is meh. He just screams career AHLer.

I may be losing my mind but wasn't he their leading scorer in Lake Erie this past year, or at least real close? He's had a number of minor injuries and has failed to add much mass, but he's also had a lot of stretches where he was by far their biggest weapon on the team, like an AHL Karlsson.

It's not just sacco's fault, but they crushed his confidence during that first call up without providing him the coaching he so desperately needed. And he has not looked as aggressive, loose/comfortable or creative against nhlers since those first few games.

Checking the Lake Erie website he was 6th on team scoring with 28 points. Hunwick and Stollery put up more numbers from the backend. Agozzino and Olver led the team with 49 points a piece.

Huh, weird. Guess he's got a lot more to prove if he wants to have a real shot at redmond's job at some point than I thought.

You must have missed the "potential to be the best in the NHL" memo a few weeks back. :help:

Well, it's disappointing, but probably time to move on. Even if he does have a NHL future, it's not likely to be with Colorado.

Maybe Buffalo or Carolina takes a flyer on him., but I don't think any team even has any room on their blue line for a guy like Elliot.

I'd be surprised if he's picked up. He's had forever to make an impact on a team with one of the league's worst defenses and hasn't shown squat. I suppose a desperate team might be enticed by his past potential, but nothing ever really came of that. This was a guy who was supposed to be insurance against trading Shattenkirk, so it's not like the Avs were taking him for granted or screwing with his development. Not sure there's much to redeem with the guy, though I guess someone could talk themselves into believing he's still got time to put it all together. Which maybe he does, but we sure as hell haven't seen any signs of it.

I was never really overly impressed with him. At one point I thought he could make the team over Barrie, but Barrie has taken the next step developmental wise while Elliott finds himself mired in the same spot. He's had plenty of time to push himself to make the jump and each time to me he seems more unimpressive than the last.

i never really felt like elliott tried hard enough, or simply didnt know how to play the way he needed to play

he has a good (wrist) shot and can skate pretty well, but he seems clueless on the ice when he doesnt have the puck

Well he at least gets another season to try to prove he can develop into something. Absolutely his last chance with the Avs organization.

All of the Elliot fans can breathe now. To put things in perspective, like someone posted above, he is still younger than Holden and Redmond. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he eventually puts it together. It does look less and less likely that he will as time goes on though.

Does his contract expire this year? Hard to imagine him getting resigned if he doesn't show a lot of improvement.

Yeah, he only signed a 1 year deal (QO IIRC).

He should go and play for Forsberg in SHL. Cumiskey was 5th and 6th in defenseman scoring in SHL playing for Modo.
