Stanley Cup Winning LA KINGS Discussion, Thoughts

You mean the point that you're perhaps annoyed that the Rags lost and thus couldn't say "I told you so" to all of us? :sarcasm:

I mean you weren't exactly hoping they'd lose during the series, you know.

Screw that!!

I hope they spiral down into the depths of mediocrity as a result.

I have ZERO love for the Rags. ZERO.

I want that franchise to fail and fail HARD.

Was never my intent. And I understand you hate all Ranger fans and players, good luck with that.

This is awesome

On this replay, you can really see how good that initial shot was.
Some will say that Lundqvist shouldn't have put the rebound there, but I can guarantee you that was not his intention at all. He had absolutely no choice. it was just a great shot. Nice torque, middle of the pad and from an angle to the stick side. It's incredibly difficult to control a rebound from that shot. Really good stuff right there.

Looks to me from that replay that the initial shot was deflected?

I think you guys are right. I thought it looked to be slightly deflected at first as well, but I honesty didn't think it was deflected enough to make much of a difference. But the more I look at it, it seems like it was originally going to go to Lundqvist's left side. Can't say for sure what he was exactly aiming for.

“This series was probably — I don’t want to say the easiest, but the least physical, demanding without a doubt. All the other series were more physical, they were tougher on the body. It was still a good series, but the other ones were tougher,” said Doughty.

It was a little dissapointing when the Rags avoided the sweep but seeing them lose in 5 means we're still one better than them 'cos we lost in 6. That's the twisted logic of this fan.
More seriously the Kings play what we still fondly think of as "Devils hockey" and the Rangers are still the Rangers. When they used Gomez to fleece the Habs of McDonagh and they were building around abrasive winners like Callahan, Dubinsky and Anisimov things seemed a little worrying but now they seem to have reverted to type. In reality their run to the finals was like Florida in '96 or Carolina in '02; they were seriously outmatched and likely to struggle to win 2 games let alone 4.
But because they have the effortless superiority complex backed up by media centrality they believed they were better than they are. The same is true for Lundqvist. He's not the tender Rask or Rinne are but because he plays for NYR he and the media tell us he's peerless. The pompous self regard he exudes fits the team and it's just nice to see it punctured (stupid hats and grown men fitting jigsaw pieces to a wall). Just a relief to see it all come to nothing.
Obviously it's just a side show and a Devs resurgence is what we all want but this result still leaves a nice warm glow of relieved satisfaction for the summer.

How hard is it to resist going to a Rangers board and putting this up?

Talk about Ultimate Troll-job! LMAO!!

(disclaimer : Not that I'm advocating doing that but it's hilarious to think about their reaction. :sarcasm: )

I can't help but think that some of our younger players there at the dance for the first time took some mental notes on what gutsy looks like from playing their 2012 finals opponent.

You're more than a-okay in my book. It's amazing that the only thing in the world that could make me actually like the Kings and their fans more actually happened this year.

We beat them in the ECF in 2012, exercised the Matteau demons and now they can't make fun of us anymore for losing in the SCF. I'll take that.

It makes it even sweeter since it was against the same opponent and in less games.

It's the only rule to being a NJ [or even NYI] fan. Hating them even more than we love our own team. Some hate the Flyers more than the Rags, but the principle is still there.

I enjoyed these finals and the 2012 ECF more than our cup wins.

That might almost be sacrilege, but I think I can agree that after 'Henrique it's over!' I almost didn't care what happened next. I think some of our players felt the same way - and that might have cost us something in the finals. Not saying it would have mattered - the Kings were a buzz saw - but it certainly cost something.

Basically everything(aside from the Devils winning the Cup) has turned out for the better for the Devils fans. :D

And you're so right about the "same opponent and in less games", MJ.

When we beat them in 2012, but then lost in SIX games to the Kings, the Rags fans were all like "1994 still matters because you didn't win the cup...blahblahblah..." and this year they were like "Watch us do what your team couldn't do". And you know what?

They were right. They did something the Devils couldn't do :

LOSE IN 5.

Can we start up a collection to rent that billboard the Kings used outside MSG and play this nonstop on opening night next season?
