So believe me when I say, I am a monumental proponent of making fiscally responsible signings in the hopes that we lock up a very solid young core for the foreseeable future, and still have cap to fill out the roster.
All this said, it seems Benning is bent on spending as much as he can for.......reasons.
Instead of taking on OEL which we seem to be relatively ok with doing (Benning, not necessarily us), would it make more sense to try and instead allocate that money to a guy like Stamkos? Difference maker when healthy, LTIR candidate when not.
TB needs to get rid of salary, and could basically bring back the entire team (minus Stammer) with this move. He also famously only played about three minutes when they first win the cup, so they may view him as an EXTREME luxury.
Thoughts on what a deal here might look like? Thoughts on whether it's even worth exploring?
