How does Rattie get more votes than Jaskin? Outside of getting little more than 3rd and 4th line cup of coffee, he's done little to prove he isn't our top forward prospect at the pro level. He also has less factors that make him a long shot at the next level.

Rattie had a better year in the AHL and his skill is much more needed on this team than jaskin's grit. They will both become great players but Rattie has more upside to becoming a more flashy player.

He only had a better year because he played many more games as Jaskin was in the NHL. Jaskin had more points per game. Jaskin had 29 in 42 or 0.69 ppg vs Rattie's 48 in 72 or 0.67. So Jaskin's PPG was slightly better.

Jaskin has high end skill. People are over-looking that because he is big. He has just as high of a ceiling as Rattie. He won't be a pure goal scorer, but is very comparable to Bobby Ryan if he improves his skating. He is big, strong, has a good shot and can be a set up man. Only difference is Ryan can beat people one on one, Jaskin can't yet.

Because skill trumps toughness? It's fine to say Jaskin is the better prospect because he is safer, but there is no doubt that Rattie has more skill, and a pretty significantly higher ceiling. He just scored 31 goals in his his rookie season in the AHL for pete's sake. He was a long term project from the moment he was drafted, but he has tremendous upside. If he adds muscle ala Schwartz, he has a chance to be a very good player. Let's not forget that Jaskin has his own issues. The kid still needs a ton of work on his skating. Last year, he was in the NHL, but couldn't gain more than playing fourth line minutes because he couldn't keep up. He's what this team needs: a potential high impact scorer. We need more of that to compete with the likes of Chicago and LA.

That may well be that he could potentially score more. Hockey is more than scoring goals and offense. Keep in mind, they are the same age. They both need to improve their skating. Rattie wasn't even visible in the cameo he made with the Blues. When Jaskin was with the Wolves, he was their best player aside from Jake Allen and Chicago Blues can back me on this. If Jaskin plays the entire year with Chicago, then does he put up 30? It's an adjustment to go from being a 18 minute player in all situations to a 10 minute, non consequential player. We seem to forget that Jaskin totally dominated and put up major points in his one year in juniors as well. He can play and isn't just a stiff. You have to let him play with somebody that does little more than bat the puck around in the corners. If the Hitchcock game plan isn't changed, then you probably won't ever see Rattie as a Blue as that is far from being his game.
