I would think he wants a shot at a cup somewhere , if a contender wants him . That would rule out Ottawa since well lets say its doubtful the Sens become Cup contenders while Spezza is still active.

At this point with Spezza you're getting a 4th line Center who is one of the top faceoff men in the league who can help your powerplay on either unit but is slow as hell and a really big defensive liability.

How much he asks for will determine the number of teams interested, but a return to Ottawa could be Interesting. Either draw fans with nostalgia or repel fans looking for a young, fresh, new direction.
Hard to say what it would do, but ultimately I’d say if the Sens had a chance at a good price.... why not!

I have four different Spezza jerseys so I would not mind. While we’re at it let’s get Karlsson back this off season too.

Would a contender even take him on at this point? If so, I wonder which one. I mean Dallas isn't willing to sign him so that's saying something.
Going to Ottawa to get decent minutes to shelter some of their younger players makes sense. If he plays well he could be traded at the deadline.

Would be cool for him to go back to Ottawa. Kids there could really use a mentor/leader like him.

No idea. You need to shelter him heavily 5on5 . Not sure a contender wants that for a 4th line Center. The 4th line was often heavily hemmed into the defensive zone when Spezza was on it and he was a big reason for that. Its why he was scratched to end the RS and to start the playoffs.

Surprised to hear he's already been told by Dallas that they're letting him walk. Been a rough stretch for him, though, these past two seasons.

Would he consider signing with the Oilers as their 3C and a chance to play with McDavid/Draisaitl?

Honestly i'm not. That 4th line was really a weak point in the playoffs. Yes Spezza produced points at a decent clip in the playoffs but his line was often really struggling to even exit the zone.

Good for him I’m glad to see him still playing. For a team that wants a powerplay specialist and someone to win face offs he’s still great in that role. Dallas plays a different system and I’m hoping that we are going for a more speed based fourth line.

Look forward to the Spezza blueline special whoever signs him. He will be along the half wall in the defensive zone, can't make the proper exit so he then pass it away into the middle of the ice to the opponent on the blueline.

Happens about 50 times a season.

Far worse are this offensive zone turnovers where he turns the puck over on an unneccsarily risky play his linemates can't handle because he now plays with 4th liners for a breakaway or 2/3 on 1 while at the same time taking himself out of the play by falling down.

Honestly I'd take him in Toronto. He's not what he used to be, but he doesn't have to be.

The Leafs already have Matthews Tavares and Kadri down the middle all Spezza would have to be is better than Gauthier and he is, because every center in the NHL is.

All we need from Spezza is win faceoffs

He's a 4C that still has hands, great at faceoffs and still can play on the PP. He'll be valuable to someone at the right price.

I think a lot of this depends on who the Sens hire to be their coach. Spezza and Martin didn’t have the greatest relationship, so if Martin does come back, I would assume Spezza likely doesn’t.

I’m open to him coming back, but I imagine one of Tierney or Pageau would be traded, unless Spezza moves to the wing.
