Is this per or total? He made 874K last year.

Oh it says AAV right there. Similar to Terry, but arbitration rights got him a little more.

Just over 4 million in cap space left with Miller, Sherwood, and Larsson still to sign. We'll wind up being pretty close.

I could see MDZ coming back at a minimal salary again as 7D. It's definitely as good a season as any to carry around that Perry hit, though, since knows wtf is going to happen.

Seems high to me for what he has shown to date. I would have been more comfortable at around $1.5 million. Fortunately it is only a two year deal. Also the Ducks can use him in a trade if they want to try to get a higher impact forward and the other team wants a cost controlled forward back in trade. Plus it gives the Ducks another forward to expose to the expansion draft.

Slightly high but not a big hit at all, makes sense if he had arbitration rights to get a slight bump.

I liked him in his short time here before the season ended. Brought some creativity and playmaking we sorely missed.

They should have just offered a one year 1 million contract similar to a Sprong show-me contract. Unfortunately Bob is a casino gambler and thinks there’s a small chance that Milano blows it up next season to give his those future massive savings.

More likely that because Milano was arb eligible they had to offer a bit more to avoid arbitration.

Even with that I'm still a bit surprised by a two year deal at this AAV. Just didn't think Milano was going to end up costing much more than our ELC guys. It's not super high or anything but I just would have guessed he'd be closer to 1M or so.

Then again, I hadn't looked at the leagues average salary in quite some time. Milano is still coming in well below that, I guess it's about right.

Goes to show what arbitration rights does for a player. Terry to me has shown more and is a more valuable piece than Milano yet Milano’s deal is much more player friendly.

Imagine being annoyed about a 2 year contract when this team is still 3+ years away from being competitive.

A little too much, but I doubt this is going to prevent Ducks from signing someone they need. They can expose him to Seattle and if he doesn't become anything, it's just a two-year deal.

People need to remember that saying they don’t like it or that it’s too much doesn’t mean they’re complaining. This isn’t politics; someone can actually not love everything about something and still support it.

I’ll echo what most have said: it’s more than he deserves but it’s not that bad. 5 years ago this would have bugged me more than it does now because the state of the team. I don’t think the small extra cost will impact our overall roster with this move.

He played less in the last two games. Does anyone remember was he trending south?
Ofc he started with 2+1 in first 2 games with us :D

Overall last season he was playing with 0.41PPG, which would translate to 34 points over 82 games. Surely he will have to step up as he is not known as a fit for bottom 6

Look at the math:
Milano will make 1.7mil
The guy they gave up to get Milano: Shore makes 2.3 mil
The guy they gave up to get Shore: Cogliano makes 3.25 mil for 2 more seasons.
The Ducks flipped Cogs for a cheaper younger player whom they flipped for even younger cheaper player and for one that has upside still.
Milano makes about half of what Cogs is getting as a 4th liner.

This is just a very long-winded way of saying there are players who are more overpaid than Sonny. It's not the worst contract in the world but it's not great. It's just okay, but it could be nudged either way depending on how he performs over the next couple years.

But talking about not sweating a couple hundred grand ain't it. This team cries poverty always, and is frequently a cap team. Those are two situations where you better be sweating every penny.

Cogs and even Shore are much better at their role - bottom 6 forwards, than Milano is at his role - top 6 forward. And surely Milano is a poorer bottom 6 player of the three.

As we lack offense, we are in a position to give Milano a chance in top 6 to see if he can improve, he can not get this role on a good team. That's why we are in a situation like this.
