Auston Matthews through 24 games last year: 28 points, 17 goals
Auston Matthews through 24 games this year: 26 points, 11 goals.

For all the negativity surrounding his play this year, I can't recall anyone mentioning that he's on pace for a career high in assists this year (51.25 over full 82). This isn't a video game, sometimes players can work on other parts of their game. If Matthews can start averaging 50-60 assists per year and develop his playmaking, he can get 110-120 points in his sleep considering his goalscoring ability.

Everyone knows he's the best goalscorer in the NHL by far since he was drafted, but if he can add this kind of playmaking to his game McDavid's Art Ross monopoly might be in trouble.

hes still also 6% under his average shooting % this year.

take his average shooting % of 16.1 and hed have about 16 goals as opposed to 11.

Who cares????????????????? Too much focus on an issue which is irrelevant .. points mean nothing to Matty at this stage in his career .. what is important is that he tilts ice every night against opponents best centre like he did last night again .. when Matty tilts ice we will win da game

He had a high shooting percentage because of the velocity and accuracy he had. This year we haven't seen much of that so the shooting percentage should be lower .

Yup and that would actually give him a better start compared to his Hart year last season.

The goals will come, and when they do he will skyrocket up the points and goals ladder.

the other benefit is that if he is able to effectively dish, should his shot get taken away in the playoffs he has options.

Reminds me of when Crosby focused more on shooting the puck and ended up winning the Rocket Richard

Team is 4th in the league. Consider the leafs spotting Matthews the missed points and move on. He doesn't need to carry the team every game. Will need for him to carry the team for a few in the future though. Water under the bridge.
