23) Nick Merkely (no problem with Boeser though)
66) Alexandre Carrier (would have taken him here even though he was there at 114. May also have gone Bracco but probably not given the forward at 23)
114) Ryan Pilon (no problem with Zhukenov)
144) Andrew Mangiapane
149) Nikita Korostelev
174) Lukas Jasek (love this pick)
210) Dunno

If allowed to trade, I would have done something similar to the leafs, and probably traded down a bit more

i.e 23 for 29+61
29 for 34+68
34 for 42+109

Try to trade up 61 + 109 for ~55

42 - Chlapik
55 - Dunn
66 - Dergyachov
68 - Saarijarvi
114 - Carrier
144 - Gavrikov
149 - Mangiapane
174 - Soy
210 - Pilipenko

If forced to keep the same picks, i'd go

23 - Beauvillier
66 - Dergyachov
114 - Carrier
144 - Gavrikov
149 - Mangiapane
174 - Soy
210 - Pilipenko

I think your first proposal looks a lot uglier than what the Canucks actually did. At least I expect Boeser to become a player. I can't see anyone, outside of maybe Dunn, becoming a player (and I know that I had a few of your guys on my list too).

Thought it would be fun to do a Central Scouting BPA list as a reference to our personal ones. Caveat being that only the NA list was used. CSS ratings next to their names.

23) Travis Konecny [14]
66) Ryan Pilon [24]
114) Nikita Korostelev [50]
144) Cooper Marody [53]
149) Nathan Noel [54]
174) Adam Marsh [55]
210) Puis Suter [74]

From my viewings, Chlapik and Dunn were in the same echelon as Boeser.

If you are able to get Chlapik and Dunn instead of Boeser, that's a positive move, imo.

I don't see Boeser having a significantly higher upside or potential to reach that upside than either of those two.

You are also adding an additional early 3rd, where I chose to take Saarijarvi who I think will show his value next season in the FEL/WJs. Especially with how well smaller defenseman are doing in the NHL lately, I think he'll have considerable more value in the next couple of years than his draft position. Wouldn't be surprised to see him follow in Vatanen's footsteps. So, even if he is a smaller defenseman, imo he's the BPA at that point, and if you really wanted, you could move him for another player that's also progressing well.

I'd much rather have those 3 shots at success than just Boeser. YMMV.

Dergyachov, 6'4, 225 lbs, great skater. If he wasn't Russian, he'd be a first rounder. With the KHL weakening, I think it's tremendous value where he was picked. I'd much rather have him over Brisebois (not a terrible pick, just not a huge fan of him).

I did like what the Canucks did in the later rounds, just a lot of players I didn't see much/any of -- I guess time will tell which approach is superior for the early rounds.

Just as a heads up, while people are welcome to post potential trades or multiple picks at one position (i.e. saying Boeser/Merkley at 23), for the sake of consistency, if/when the time comes where the drafts will be evaluated, I'll only be looking at our actual picks, and if you have more than one player, it will only take into account the first one listed at any given pick, so as to keep the playing field even (and not give someone multiple kicks at the can, so to speak).

Be interesting to do a Bob/Button list as well. Easy to dig those up in a year or two though.

Almost missed this amid the hustle and bustle of draft weekend and free agency. But i'll throw this out there for posterity sake i guess.

23)Jacob Larsson.
66)Alexandre Carrier.
114)Glenn Gawdin.
144)Radovan Bondra.
149)Nathan Noel.
174)Adam Marsh.
210)Daniel Krenzelok.

HMs:
-would've had a hard time turning down Nick Merkley @ #23.
-probably could've tried to game the system knowing Carrier would still be there @114 and pick Alexander Dergachyov @ 66 instead.
-Nikita Korostelev, would've been temped to pick him, but clearly something was up with him that i was not privvy to that probably would've scared me off.

Also, i'm keeping the two Undrafted guys i picked in last year's version of this who both were drafted this year (Vladislav Gavrikov, Joey Daccord), as like...bonus picks. :)
