Once again, it's that time of year again to see how well a poster on HF's picks might stack up against a team of trained "professionals".

Previous years:

2014
2013

For reference here are our picks:

23) Brock Boeser
66) Guillaume Brisebois
114) Dmitry Zhukenov
144) Carl Neill
149) Adam Gaudette
174) Lukas Jasek
210) Tate Olson

And here's who I would have picked:

23) Jeremy Roy
66) Alexander Dergachyov
114) Dmytro Timashov
144) Ryan Pilon
149) Nikita Korostolev
174) Sebastian Aho (SWE)
210) Kay Schweri

Have at it!

I know nothing about any prospects after this. If I knew Soy would go undrafted, take Reddekop at 149 and take Soy with the 7th.

174) Lukas Jasek
210) Tate Olsen

very similar to OP's list, would have been okay if we went heavy on russians

23) Travis Konency

114) Dmytro Timashov
144) Ryan Pilon
149) Nikita Korostelev

Going off my list I would go with

23) Nick Merkley
66) Ryan Pilon
114) Alexander Carrier
144) Nikita Korostelev
149) Sebastian Aho (SWE)
174) Tyler Soy
210) Vladimir Tkachev

I have doubts about how many people would have waited to the 5th round to pick up Pilon. Yeah, we know after the draft that we could have waited that long, but before the draft most people would think he would be gone by the end of the 3rd round.

I would have gone with Merkley at 23, though no complaints about Boeser.

23) Nick Merkley
66) Mitch Vande Sompel
114) Ethan Bear
144) Ryan Pilon
149) Gaudette
174) Jasek

I'm good with Boeser but would have likely gone with Konecny or Merkley ahead of him...was really hoping Svechnikov was going to drop to us.

I like our picks this year more than last. The absence of another 1st, and the attending loss in odds when it comes to producing NHLers, may not make it as productive, but the effort is there.

A pair of Datsyukian swings in the later rounds is appreciated. Some hopefully underappreciated D men poised to have Corrado like progression. No real beef.

I'd roll with:

23 Sprong
66 Schemitsch
114 Timashov
144 Pilon
149 Reddekopp
174 Jasek
210 Leveille (Loik)

Anybody not have Timashov or Pilon in those slots?

I have to admit, I watched much less this year than prior years. But i'm going to take a stab at this, just for fun!

23) Brock Boeser/Nick Merkley [Either/Or]
66) Austin Wagner
114) Dmitry Zhukenov [Don't mind this one, sounds intriguing to me]
144) Ryan Pilon [Not his biggest fan, but at this point, value is right, reminds me of a poor man's Ceci]
149) Andrew Mangiapane
174) Lukas Jasek [Also don't mind this one, sounds intriguing to me]
210) Tyler Soy

Invite ideas: Brandon Crawley [OHL], Alex Sharov [KHL], Evan Weinger [WHL], Pius Suter [OHL]

23) Nick Merkley or Boeser. Also like the sounds of the guy Anaheim picked but haven't seen him play.

66) Conor Garland

114) Chaz Reddekopp

144) Ryan Pilon

149) Andrew Mangiapane

174) Jasek sounds good

210) Tyler Soy

Garland and Reddekopp could have been had with lower picks but that's where I would have taken them as things were happening.

Yeah, this is why doing an after the draft mock gives fans a huge leg up. Hindsight makes a major difference here...

Don't know enough about guys outside the first Rd to bother with my mock, but Dergashyov is the guy I wanted at 66 instead of Brisebois. With that said, after digging into Brisebois since he was picked, I like that selection.

Actually like the thought process of all 7 picks where they were selected. Can't think of a single complaint from this draft...

I really don't think it gives people a "huge" leg up. It might affect *maybe* one or two picks in the later rounds, but as long as people try their best to be honest and people understand that it's just a rough approximation as to how armchair scouts perform compared to our own scouts.

I don't think it'd hugely surprising that Pilon is going after someone like Timashov (who I was high on well before the draft) especially considering how sour a lot of people were on Pilon, although in the 5th round he's just too far fallen to pass up on.

It's really just mostly for fun anyways,

Agreed. I personally don't know much about Pilon but would have taken him at 144 honestly just because he was rated a consensus first/second rounder. Still would have taken Wotherspoon and Garland before him so it doesn't change much.

If you don't use hindsight, it's impossible to know if a player will be there or not. Until seeing the first 22 picks, most people wouldn't have thought Nick Merkley or Travis Konecny would be available at 23, but there they were. You'd be blasted for taking Barzal 16 in a mock, etc.
