Yeah, I don't know enough about the later round guys but there are posters here I'd trust over some of the Canucks' scouts. Really interested to see this in even just a year. I have a feeling that 6th and 7th round will be particularly noteworthy, and not in a good way...

Yeah, the stat line on those two is pretty alarming. I definitely wouldn't have picked them, knowing how poorly players like that tend to project. I just don't know enough about the alternatives.

6th - toss-up between Virtanen and Ehlers, although would have tried to trade down 3-4 spots
24th - Adrian Kempe
35th - Roland McKeown
66th - Brayden Point
125th - Gustav Forsling (like this pick)
156th - Aaron Irving
186th - Joe Hicketts

Without looking at the board in pretty sure this would have been my list too.

Although McCann was 4th or 5th on my list.

I like pollock. Classic stars pick.

66 I'd have been interested in bunting and point. Would have been sad Kirkland went 3 spots ahead. Probably would have looked long and hard at mayo here.

126- I like rehill too. Seems like a rich mans Mackenzie Stewart. Way more upside.

156- I like duke, Lang and fazleev here. More upside. Lang is an island boy too. Fits the local boy we're looking for. Not big but plays hard.

186- this is where you draft talent. LA continually grabs players in this round that are talented yet free fell for whatever reasons.
There were quite a few nice picks made. I'd likely have drafted tyson bailie here. Proud westerner. Has some Marchand in his game. Hope we invite him to prospects camp. Hopefully we sign him too. Need more guys like this. Has the same moxy virtanen does. Hit hard ask questions later.

6) William Nylander
24) Josh Ho-Sang
36) Thatcher Demko (I actually didn't know how highly regarded he was this year. Otherwise, I would have taken Pollock)
66) Brayden Point

After here, my knowledge of prospects gets super dicey. So I'm not even going to bother.

Interesting to see a lot of people prefer Barbashev over McCann even though the latter is rated higher on TSN's list. Personally I wanted the former at 24 too.

Sham variation approach - incorporates D men, some non CHL leagues (not weighed equally), and size consideration - after the 6th pick:

6 Nicholas Ritchie
24 Ivan Barbashev
36 Julius Bergman
66 Alexis Vanier
126 Anders Bjork
156 Francis Perron
186 Axel Holmstrom

I did this last year as sort of a game to see how well HF posters can do compared to our scouting department paid millions to make these picks. Here's last years:

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1460609

Anyways, basically what you do is say who you'd have taken at each pick given who was available.

For reference, here are our picks:

6) Jake Virtanen
24) Jared McCann
36) Thatcher Demko
66) Nikita Tryamkin
126) Gustav Forsling
156) Kyle Pettit
186) Mackenzie Stewart

And here's who I'd take:

6) Nikolaj Ehlers
24) Ivan Barbashev
36) Roland Mckeown
66) Brayden Point
126) Dysin Mayo
156) Vladimir Tkachev
186) Ondrej Kase

Have at it!

Your picks are pretty much exactly what I would have drafted, though I'm tempted to say Scherbak at 24. I would have then thrown the 36 + 66 at someone to move up and draft Barbashev in the late 20's.

This is tough because I don't know this draft very well but for history's sake I'll make a fool out of myself...

6) Jake Virtanen - (I'll stick with Virtanen even though I strongly like Nylander as well)
24) Ivan Barbashev (really disappointed we missed him)
36) Thatcher Demko (What the hell?)
66) Nikita Tryamkin - (I would've grabbed him a year ago with our 7th, I've liked him for a long time)

From there on out I'd just be picking names out of a hat. Really don't think this is going to be a good draft class this year.

Taking back all of the trades made (i.e. no trading for Vey or Dorsett)

6. Virtanen
Trade 24 + 50 for 20
20. Fabbri
Trade 36 + 86 for 30/31/32 (might take an extra mid-round pick)
30. Barbashev
66. Tryamkin (pre-draft would have taken Point or Brycen Martin here, but it seems like the Canucks have some ins with Tryamkin, in which case I'd take him here).
126. Kase (I like the Forsling pick, wasn't really on my radar prior to the draft.. in which case move Kase and Tkachev back a pick each)
156. Tkachev
186. Tyson Baillie

I'd have done the same (using the 3rd, 6th and 7th)
Ehlers, Fabbri, Barabashev, McKeown, who ever

I also had a hard time picking between Barbashev and Scherbak. I think he has higher offensive upside and is still evolving as a player so his defensive game looks like it will come along well. If it was possible to trade up for Barbs, yeah... that would be a pretty great move. Coming out of the draft with Nylander/Ehlers, Barbashev and Scherbak would be pretty impressive.

If Benning took a 10th and 24th deal instead of Bonino and kept the 50th, I'd do:

6. Nylander
10. Barbashev
24. Scherbak
36. Pollock
50. Point
66. Magyar
126. Forsling
156. Kulda
186. Kase

I wasn't expecting Ritchie to drop to 10th for the record, too bad we couldn't take Barbashev with the 36th pick, otherwise that would work out perfectly.

If we'd kepth the #50 pick instead of dealing it, i would've probably gone Glover there, and tried to sneak Magyar in there at #66 as well.
