I did this last year as sort of a game to see how well HF posters can do compared to our scouting department paid millions to make these picks. Here's last years:

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1460609

Anyways, basically what you do is say who you'd have taken at each pick given who was available.

For reference, here are our picks:

6) Jake Virtanen
24) Jared McCann
36) Thatcher Demko
66) Nikita Tryamkin
126) Gustav Forsling
156) Kyle Pettit
186) Mackenzie Stewart

And here's who I'd take:

6) Nikolaj Ehlers
24) Ivan Barbashev
36) Roland Mckeown
66) Brayden Point
126) Dysin Mayo
156) Vladimir Tkachev
186) Ondrej Kase

Have at it!

6. Nik Ehlers
24. Ivan Barbashev
36. Brett Pollock *
50**. Ryan Donato
66. Blake Siebenaler
96**. Michael Bunting
126. Dysin Mayo *
156. Ondrej Kase
186. Axel Holmstrom

*I am content with Demko, but my drafting tendencies would not have a goalie that high. I have Mayo ranked higher than Forsling, but i like Forsling a lot too.
**Making the pick anyways here for hypothetical purposes

I don't have a strong enough opinion of the later picks yet, but I would have taken Ehlers, Barbashev, and McKeown with the first three picks.

6. Jake Virtanen-Given the stated desires of the team to get tougher, and the need for finishing ability, this is a sensible selection.

24. David Pastrnak-Not the type of player we were looking for, but dynamic without being one dimensional.

36. Roland McKeown-We needed a defenceman and he is arguably the fifth best in the draft. Low downside with interesting upside.

66. Anton Karlsson-No idea why he slipped so far. Similarities to past first round busts should not scare anyone in the third round. Like Virtanen plays the way the team is trying to move towards.

126. Gustav Forsling-More upside than other defensive options. Although, maybe the big Russian is still available...

156. Ondrej Kase-Small and not overly quick, but oozes skill. Ideal late round boom or bust pick.

186. More research needed...

Don't know enough about the last couple of randoms to be any better at guessing than the Canucks. However, just for fun, here's some random selections. Let's see if a monkey is better than the Canucks!

Yeah, I don't know enough about the later round guys but there are posters here I'd trust over some of the Canucks' scouts. Really interested to see this in even just a year. I have a feeling that 6th and 7th round will be particularly noteworthy, and not in a good way...

I'd be willing to co-sign all picks excluding Pettit. I would've wanted Edgars Kulda with that pick. I really like Demko, Tryamkin, Forsling choices and am indifferent about McCann (since people are making a lot of good arguments for several other choices) and Stewart (because I like the story his much).
