So why exactly is MacKinnon better than Matthews again?

MacKinnon has simply been the much better post-season performer thus far in their respective careers. Until Matthews can change that, he doesn't really deserve to be ranked ahead.

Mackinnon career playoffs stats: 50 GP, 28 goals, 41 assists, 69 points (82 game pace: 46 goals, 67 assists, 113 points)

Matthews career playoff stats: 32 GP, 13 goals, 11, assists, 24 points (82 game pace: 33 goals, 28 assists, 61 points)
MAckinnon even is whooping him in goals in the playoffs.
all Matthews has on him so far is a mustache.

So if we can all agree that these two are pretty close, then there is no way MacKinnon is the best player in the league like some people try to paint him as.

Don't know how this is rocket science. Mackinnon has more of an offensive arsenal. When Matthews isn't scoring, or without his remarkable shot, the rest of his offensive tools are that of a great top 6.

Mackinnon is a significantly better playmaker compared to Matthews vs Matthews as a goalscorer to Mackinnon.

So we're going to pick and choose a favourable timespan?

Okay, Matthews scored goals at a 0.788 pace this season and only generated 3 less points than MacKinnon.

Is "3 less points" now "quantifiably more offense"?

Also, how many good defensive teams did Matthews play this season?

My point is every player has their strengths and weaknesses. I don't understand how MacKinnon having a better skating game makes him a better center and hockey player overall in comparison to Matthews.

The stats tell a completely different narrative than the one pushed on these forums.

The stats show us that one players point totals increase when it matters and that one players points decrease when it matters. Which would you rather have?

Lol... do you realize that at this pace when Matthews has played the same number of games as MacKinnon has he'll have a little under twice as many goals?

Mackinnon played on a couple bad/dysfunctional avs teams to start his career. Matthews started his career with the current core still in tact. Compare their last 4 seasons

And yet Matthews scored 40 goals as a rookie playing on one of the worst Leafs teams in recent history.

A team that had the most 60 point scorers in the league and 3 rookies that topped 60 points and made playoffs?

Mackinnon led his team in scoring last year by 43 points.

Matthews' biggest lead was 13 points last year. Not much else left to be said.
