Smid and Fistric are both UFAs at the end of this year. I think they are both what this team needs, they have size, hit and stick up for their teammate.

How long would you sign them for and how much?

Considering we don't play Fistric, probably not much at all.

too early to tell for fristric--he is going to be 5-6-7 d-man at best. Smid has been a good loyal soldier and I hope the oilers do not nickle and dime him out of town

Smid should be around the 4-4.5M range and for 3-4yrs. Not sure about Fistric, like to wait to see if Peckham comes back and how he performs.

I think we will sign Smid for cheaper than some people are speculating.

I will say 4 years, 13 million, 3.25 per year.

Smid will get paid--I expect a 5 year contract worth somewhere between 3.5-4.25M. Anything above that will be overpayment. Anything under 3.5M a bargain.

Fistric is not a lock to be re-signed. He meets a need presently, but the D is a bit clogged.

Smid (hopefully), Petry, N.Schultz, J.Schultz--these 4 are almost locks to be here. There might be a free agent signing to replace Whitney. Potter is signed to a contract. Then there is Klefbom, Teubert and Peckham.

Considering he was surprised that he was offered so much last time that seems like a logical assumption. 3.25-3.75 over 4 is my guess

Smid right now is 3rd in minutes per game on the Oilers --behind J.Schultz and Petry. Nick Schultz, who is, IMHO, a lesser player makes 3.5M and that contract was signed a long-time ago. Unless Smid hands out a big discount, I would not expect anything under 3.5M. Something between 3.5 and 4M appears more realistic. I'd be ok with a 4 or 5 year contract averaging 3.8M.

I am going with my alter ego. Captian Obvious. Will say as low as possible while still having them feel like a valued member of the team.

I hope Smid takes a "home town discount" but he probably could get 5 mill a year from somewhere if he only goes for the money.

I would like to see him signed long term with a nice cap hit of 3-3.5 a year. Too low I know but would be a great way to help us make a stanely cup championship team.

Honestly, what he's earning right now seems reasonable. Perhaps he's earned around 3 million (maximum). Anything above that would be preposterous.

With the cap going down, that's too much for Smid. 3.25M is fair.

I hope Smid signs for under 4m

Me too. Anything under 4 means we've made out ok. IMO, if it's over, we risk the whole Horcoff situation of fans hating a good player because he makes a too much. I think you offer him term and a NTC in exchange for a hometown discount

For Smid I'd say whatever Nick Schultz gets is fair, so 3.5 per

I would say give Fistric exactly what he makes now, 1.475.
If he made a fuss, give him 200k more.

A UFA Smid?

Damn we could pay a premium. I'm expecting 3 year $4M-4.5 which is very high imo. I value him around $3M-3.5.

This is absolutely nuts, max 3.5 for Smid. I am more comfortable with 3.0 over 3 years.

I know different circumstance but he is in now way better than P.K. Suban...!!!!..!!!

He's actually better defensively, but PK's contract is completely irrelevant. It's a bridge contract for a RFA vs an established UFA

Anything above 3 mill for Smid is overpayment. He's my favourite Oiler but let's not get too high on him. He's a black hole when it comes to offense and he has his share of defensive lapses as well.

In fact, the only reason if even give him 3 mill is because he's been such a loyal, hardworking player here.

Fistic can have 1.5 mill.
