I've just looked at Juraj Mikuš of Spartak Moscow EP profile and I wanted to ask how did he put together that crazy 08/09 season? :amazed: And what happened to him after that, he looks nowhere near that form right now.

Easy, in 08/09 he had this dude playing on his wing, in later seasons he did not.

But good GM with good relations to GMs in NHL clubs could be useful.

I suppose that is true. In that sense it is too bad Bondra couldn't stick around. It seems Jari Kurri has been the GM of Finland forever. I think Bondra is a bit overqualified for his next role, coaching high schoolers in a non-traditional hockey market in a league that must be really weak.

Does the national team continue to employ Nedomansky? Also, if they are still paying Hanlon, they could keep him around for this job. His english is apparently good. :)

In the big picture, yes. A 500 goal scorer in the NHL along with experience of running a world hockey power (hey, 4th in the Olympics means something) you would think he'd be overqualified.

But I believe the team he will be coaching is an Elite Jr. team in Maryland. His son was a very good player in the same program and was drafted by a KHL team. (I think he's in the USHL now.)

My guess is that he will be joining the Caps soon.

According to Russian media MiloÅ¡ Říha would like to coach the Slovak NT alongside SKA St. Petersbourg, however Otto Sykora says that they haven´t offered him anything yet. Seems kind of weird to me as there were about dozens of interviews with Říha since Hanlon got fires speaking hypotetically about this possibility and he always said that he wasn´t really gonna comment on it until he got a real offer to do the job. So either someone´s lying here or Slovak media are lost in translation once again.

Some interesting comments today from Zigo Palffy on the search for a coach for the Slovak National Team:

"I don't know why a Czech coach keeps being suggested. I would prefer a Slovak coach."

On whether that coach could be Jan Filc:

"It could be Mr. Filc, or someone else from Slovakia. I don't know why we're looking for a coach from the Czech Republic. I don't understand that."

-the latest rumours have Vladimir Vujtek Sr. being considered. I think they should consider Peter Ihnačák. My own first choice would be Riha but I don't think that is possible.

Vladimír Vujtek as head coach and Peter Oremus as his assistent....not confirmed yet, but it seems to be an open secret as it usually is the case with such things in Slovakia.....the only other candidate is Ján Filc...official decision will be "made" today....

Denis Rehák is doing quite ok this and the previous season as well. Anybody thinks he could be invited for some tournament? Vujtek has some connections with Vitkovice, so it seems quite real to me.

I dunno, I guess it depends on how much the NT staff scouts the Czech league....I don´t think the chances are that great tbh though...

I wonder whether Vlado Kováč from Trenčín might get a chance in net for Deutschland Cup if he continues as he´s started, he´s been lights out for Dukla so far.

The actual roster that traveled to Germany is different than the original ones because a lot of players excusd themselves:
G Peter Hamerlík 1982
G Július Hdáček 1988

D Michal Sersen 1985
D Ivan Baranka 1985
D Dominik Graňák 1983
D Tomáš Starosta 1981
D Vladimír Mihálik 1987
D Richard Stehlík 1984
D Kristián Kudroč 1981
D Peter Mikuš 1985

F René Školiak 1979
F Roman Kukumberg 1980
F Radoslav Tybor 1989
F Marek Hovorka 1984
F Rastislav Dej 1988
F Michel Miklík 1982
F Patrik LuÅ¡ňák 1988
F Mário Bližňák 1987
F Milan Bartovič 1981
F Marcel HaÅ¡čák 1987
F Juraj Mikúš 1987
F Marcel Hossa 1981
F Martin Bakoš 1990
F Libor Hudáček 1990

Still with a performance full of heart the team led by Michel Miklík who scored 2 goals and goalie Hamerlík who stopped 26 shots to get the shutout managed to blank USA 2-0 in the first game of Deutschland Cup. Definitely not too shabby from a team with half the players coming from Czech/Slovak leagues.
Slovakia- USA 2-0 (1-0,0-0, 1-0)
Miklík, Miklík (Bližňák, Sersen)
Hamerlík (Hudáček) – Graňák, Stehlík, Baranka, Starosta, Sersen, P
MikuÅ¡, Mihálik, Kudroč – Kukumberg, Hovorka, Bartovič – R.Å koliak, LuÅ¡ňák, Marcel Hossa – Miklík, Bližňák, Marcel HaÅ¡čák – Dej, J.Mikúš, BakoÅ¡

Very pleased that Rastislav Dej got the nod to get a place in the roster. I think he's a very underrated player, and being a keen follower of the Czech Extraliga, I've been mightily impressed with his performances on a crappy Karlovy Vary team.

That is apparently the first time since November 12 2005 [exactly six years ago] that they scored six goals against Germany. Radoslav Tybor scored his first national team goal.

It´s possible....socring 6 goals against Germany is no easy task....and not only for Slovakia, but also for much better teams.....Ithink we scored 5 at the 07 IHWC....

LOL  slovakiasnextone - great picture with Vujtek :D:handclap:

Anyway I want to say, I hope Vujtek will bring back all these players:

Hudáček, Hamerlík

Graňák - Kudroč
Baranka - Starosta

Tybor - Mikúš Juraj - Hossa Marcel (yeah, even for me it's a bit strange to write it  )
Bartovič - Bližňák - Miklík

Especially a bold name. For me he's a reincarnation of young Róbert Petrovický ;)

Denis Rehák is doing quite ok this and the previous season as well. Anybody thinks he could be invited for some tournament? Vujtek has some connections with Vitkovice, so it seems quite real to me.

So Rehák actually made the roster for Austria Cup next week, he originally was only a substitute, but due to injuries he was moved to the actual roster.

The roster as of today:

G Ján Lašák Amur Chabarovsk/KHL 1979
G Rastislav Staňa CSKA Moscow/KHL 1980 ?

D Marek Ďaloga HKM Zvolen/SVK 1989
D Kristián Kudroč Assat Pori/FIN 1981
D Denis Rehák HC Vítkovice/CZE 1985
D Vladimír Mihálik Lev Poprad/KHL 1987
D Michal Sersen HC Sparta Praha/CZE 1985
D Tomáš Starosta Jugra Chanty-Mansijsk/KHL 1981
D Richard Stehlík Salavat Julajev Ufa/KHL 1984
D Ján Tabaček HC KoÅ¡ice/SVK 1980

F Mário Bližňák HC Sparta Praha/CZE 1987
F Martin Bakoš HC SLOVAN Bratislava/SVK 1990
F Milan Bartovič HC Bíli Tigři Liberec/CZE 1981
F Martin Cibák Neftechimik Nižnekamsk/KHL 1980
F Vladimír Dravecký HC Košice/SVK 1985
F Marcel HaÅ¡čák HC KoÅ¡ice/SVK 1987
F Marcel Hossa Spartak Moskva/KHL 1981
F Patrik LuÅ¡ňák HK 36 Skalica/SVK 1988
F Michel Miklík HC Košice/SVK 1982
F Juraj Mikúš Lev Poprad/KHL 1987
F Branko Radivojevič Atlant MytiÅ¡či/KHL 1980
F Å tefan Ružička Spartak Moskva/KHL 1985
F Radoslav Tybor HK Dukla Trenčín 1989

Substitutes:
G Peter Hamerlík Třínec/CZE
F Libor Hudáček HC Slovan Bratislava
F Tomáš Bulík HC Slovan Bratislava

Staňa´s medical condition hasn´t been cnfirmed yet, so he might not play. Ivan Baranka is injured and out for three weeks, Peter Podhradský excused himself because of family matters, Dominik Graňák and the staff have agreed that he won´t play as Dynamo Moskva has currently only 6 healthy D-men (and don´t want to risk losing another one), but he´s confirmed for the February games, Záborský got an invitation too, but declined due to his shoulder- let´s just say that Vujtek and co. aren´t too happy about that- they kinda don´t seem to believe that it is possible to play 20+ minutes a game and be the scoring leader of SM-liiga with an injured shoulder, Roman Kukumberg got injured in a leagu game recently.
