Doug Wilson is too nice and that's his biggest flaw
How so?

This is the same GM who ruthlessly offersheeted Hjalmarsson and then Niemi to take advantage of Chicago's tight cap situation. Also the same guy who made Dorion look foolish by flipphing Hoffman back to Ottawa's division.

Taylor Hall isn’t going to be paid based on 2019-2020 either because nobody gets paid solely based on their platform year. Labanc has scored 46 points per 82 games over the past three years.

Yeah, the guy who is saying there was not some insane back door cap circumvention handshake agreement is the one that needs to use his head.
Have fun on that hill

I’m higher than most on Labanc, but that’s f***ing brutal. I think most of us had him at 3. Honestly I could have seen another 1 mil prove it deal after last season. Jesus Christ Doug, our cap structure is straight shite.
I expected 3 like you said. Would’ve felt okay with 3.5...definitely wasn’t expecting 4+.

He's pretty good but I was thinking more around the 3.5-4 range for a player like him. That's only 100K less than Elias Lindholm and it's shorter term.

Almost 5m for a guy who I dont think will score 50 too many more times

Not a great deal for SJ

With multiple high paid veterans on the decline and one of the worst prospect pools in the league, I really don’t think it matters.

Good on Doug Wilson. Good for SJ's reputation among agents around the league. How you treat players is important.
Totally agree. An organizations reputation is very important when it comes to keeping your word or you will not be getting any kind of discount when future players arrive either by draft or UFA.

They made him whole which is nice, but this basically worked out for nobody. Sharks got the cheap year when they had an awful year and didn't even own their pick. Labanc gets a decent deal here but I would imagine it's still somewhat impacted by Covid. Total of the 2 deals is below 20 million for 5 years, I'd assume he probably gets more than that on a 5 year deal last summer.

Oh well, you win some, you lose some. At least he didn't get totally screwed over.

Ehh the sharks had to do this. Clearly a handshake deal last year, and you have to follow through on your word or you'll never get a FA to sign again

Still sucks for Labanc as he will get most of his money when escrow is highest.

Hopefully it is a little bit backloaded at least.
