Carrick has been a good soldier in the Canes org, climaxing in winning a Calder Cup, but he just isn’t an NHL player. Definition of a AAAA guy who gave it his best shot and maxed out his abilities at the cusp of being promoted. He could probably make a couple of NHL rosters as a spare part, but if he’s part of the plan you’re in serious trouble. That being said, he’s a great asset at the AHL level as a veteran with several years of pro experience and still fairly young (just turned 25).
The Cup winning Checkers team has been completely picked apart already. Something like 8 of their top 10 players will be different at training camp.
