since the IIHF is adopting NHL rules, maybe the NHL should do the same

You can't compare 3-on-3 overtime in World Championship Final to 3-on-3 overtime in a regular season game. Especially with point awarded for overtime loss in NHL.

About the rules IIHF uses, I would welcome 2+10-minute penalties for few reasons (checking to the head, checking from behind, boarding) to NHL.

I often take the forward-thinking side in these debates, but don’t mess with 5 on 5 overtime in the playoffs. Faster OT is a good thing in the regular season, but that triple OT elimination goal is what dreams are made of.

Playoff overtime hockey is just about the only thing I hold as sacred in this world.

Petr Nedved winning it at 2:22 in the morning when I was 9 is the kind of hockey memory I wouldn't trade for about anything short of another Cup. Doubly so because I was in traction at the time and didn't have to worry about school in the morning

Hockey fans = more hockey is bad. Lower the number of games in a season, shorten the games. We need more time for other things in the nights.

just watched the recent world championships where on the broadcast, i heard that the IIHF will adopt the NHL's trapezoid rule for the international game...probably for the olympics...

watching the crucial game between canada and finland, i noticed that in OT you play three aside...since the IIHF is adopting several NHL rule points like the trapezoid, why not the NHL make three aside for OT in the playoffs...

i know the purists won't like it, i think playing three aside will make OT game a lot quicker and so you don't have to watch 5 OT contest like last years bubble between the bolts/jackets...

If the IIHF is adopting NHL rules, doesn't that already mean the NHL has adopted IIHF rules?

:ha:

3 on 3 is a gimmick to end games faster. Its not real hockey.

The NHL playoffs are great because the game is played as long as it takes for the players to decide who wins.

f*** 3 on 3. The triple overtime playoff games are the ones yoy remember 20 years later.

Seriously? I know people hate the shootout but there are far more penalty shot goals in the NHL than regulation 3 on 3. Putting that in the playoffs is nuts. 3 on 3 is fine for regular season purposes but those are not in place in the playoffs

If NHL should take something from the IIHF it's the 3-2-1-0 regular season point totals for W-OTW-OTL-L respectively IMO.
