Everything thats disadvantages Ovechkin is an hilarious stat per OV fanboys.
It is absolutely laughable to state shooting percentage as something to be heralded. I've already said that I think Crosby is ahead of Ovi all time so with that out of the way, anyone quoting shooting percentage as a plus in hockey doesn't have a damn clue about offense in the game. Shots generated on goal are a much more valuable stat when regarding goal scoring.

If goals were worth 2 points (Assists = 1):

Regular season
Ovechkin: 1806 PTS in 1045 GP (1,72 PPG)
Crosby: 1600 PTS in 904 GP (1,78 PPG)

Playoffs
Ovechkin: 178 PTS in 121 GP (1,47 PPG)
Crosby: 251 PTS in 160 GP (1,57 PPG)

If assists were worth 0,5 points (Goals = 1):

Regular season
Ovechkin: 903 PTS in 1045 GP (0,86 PPG)
Crosby: 800 PTS in 904 GP (0,88 PPG)

Playoffs
Ovechkin:89 PTS in 121 GP (0,73 PPG)
Crosby: 126 PTS in 160 GP (0,79 PPG)

If goals were worth 2 points and secondary assists were worth 0,5 points:

Regular season
Ovechkin: 1702 PTS in 1045 GP (1,63 PPG)
Crosby: 1459 PTS in 904 GP (1,61 PPG)

Playoffs
Ovechkin: 166 PTS in 121 GP (1,37 PPG)
Crosby: 227 PTS in 160 GP (1,42 PPG)

Even in @Midnight Judges imaginary world, Crosby trumps Ovechkin or is at worst a teeny bit worse in the RS in the imaginary 3rd scenario.

Funny how this imaginary world never sees OV playing consistently with 3rd liners and 4th liners.

Centres don't pick up more assists because its easier for them. Centres pick up more assists because all around the position is more valuable to the team offensively and defensively. They lead breakouts, offensive zone starts rely on the faceoff and have larger defensive responsibilities.
So they have the puck more and pick up more secondaries by default, thank you for underlying my point.

watch Sidney Crosby play one ****ing time and you'll see how asinine this comment is
What part of that post is a condemnation on Crosby? I've already stated that Crosby is ahead of Ovechkin, I'm simply pointing out that C's pick up more secondaries which is true.

Yes, and your point ? It's already been established that Crosby is more consistant than OV. So give Crosby 2000 more shots, and the shooting % stays the same or improves. The only reason that would change is due to age, and his inecitable decline.

The 2000 more shots only proves how much more of a shoot first player Ovechkin is, and being a shoot first kinda guy, he has been awarded more individual awards. Whereas Crosby is a team first guy, and therefor has far more team success ( 3 cups, multiple Olympics, etc)
Man gtfo here I'd have won gold on those Olympic teams. If Crosby had a better shot he would shoot more and generate more shots. If he shot more his percentage would inevitably go down as well.

Only a matter of time before Sid leaves Ovi in the rear view mirror despite missing almost 2 seasons worth of games.

Pretty sure tongue was firmly planted in cheek on that one.

I'm surprised this has already gone 28 pages.....Crosby vs Ovechkin has been debated for over a decade, and Crosby finally passing Ovy in points likely won't be enough to sway either side in the whole "who is better" war.

I guess it's just about bragging rights, or what's the point? :help:

And it takes a ridiculous scenario for Sid to be SLIGHTLY behind Ovechkin and you haven't accounted for face offs, defense and other stuff.

There is just no argument.

2 of the most overrated players in history. Kucherov is currently playing at pace Sid and Ovi could never even dream of reaching, at their peal.

It's not his fault but kucherov has had more support in the last 2 years then Sid or ovi has ever had in their careers.

Not saying this is right but it’s an interesting post. I love how people just assume Malkin, OV and Crosby are/were on a whole other level from the current stars like Kucherov, Rantanen, Mackinnon. What’s this assumption even based on?

Longevity and consistency. You can't seriously put a guy like Rantanen in the same class as Crosby or Ovechkin after a hot half season.
Also Crosby never had wingers like MacKinnon and Landy. Some players are successful due to their linemates, and others are successful in spite of their linemates. Take as long as you need to figure out which ones are which.

you called secondary assists garbage points. If anyone would watch Crosby for more than 30 seconds you could tell that the majority of his secondary assists come from thinking 5-steps ahead of everyone else like he always does.

If secondary assists are so easy to accumulate then why doesn't everyone do it?
