Voted #4. $1.5M over 3 years is safe.
He was totally lost in his first season but slowly cleaned up his game. He's now very effective and worth keeping. His career trajectory to date reminds me of what Alex Burrows did. Let's see where he ends up!
Wait for now, he could be a good piece but he's replaceable
I would sign him to that deal but I think he gets a lot more on the open market
If they can't pay their 3rd line around 6 million time to pack up and move. That seems well bellow average 3rd line salary. Connor and Laine has no baring on thisNo. We have bigger fish to fry first. Why would Tanev come before Laine and Connor?
Logic would dictate that you deal with low hanging fruit first. The Trouba, Laine, Connor contracts could drag on until training camp and perhaps beyond.Every dollar counts. My vote is to address Tanev after we know how Laine, Connor, and Trouba's contracts play out because flexibility when attempting to lock up the elite core of this team may end up more valuable than it's complimentary peices. You can't go back and ask for a few 100k back from Tanev once he signs.
Also: We don't know than Tanev will be content with a 400K raise for the prime years of his career.
What Tanev will sign for is an interesting question. Most contenders who are cap crunched won't be offering much more than the Jets can afford, and he likely won't find as a good a fit as he has with Lowry. If the Jets offer him security at a fair price he may not even get to the point where he looks elsewhere. 3 X's $2 M maybe gets it done.If they can't pay their 3rd line around 6 million time to pack up and move. Also, overpaying your depth means that those tougher contracts can become a nightmare.Logic would dictate that you deal with low hanging fruit first. The Trouba, Laine, Connor contracts could drag on until training camp and perhaps beyond.
I would recommend that important pieces should be prioritized over the less important pieces. Building and maintaining a solid core is the priority, retaining nice complimentary pieces comes next.Logic would dictate that you deal with low hanging fruit first. If they can pay Petan a mil to do nothing then Tanev definitely worth 1.5.Voted #4. $1.5M over 3 years is safe.
