Unless he hires Marner's Dad as his agent he is a Leaf for the foreseeable future and should be.
No brainer really ... makes complete senseRight at this moment I don't understand why the Leafs would offer to resign him early and possibly create an issue for the Seattle expansion draft.
Let him go through the expansion draft (where he requires no protection - nor can he be selected as a pending UFA) and then sign him back before he gets to UFA.
If the Leafs can move Johnsson and/or Engvall, then sure!
And signing early means the Leafs would have to use a Seattle protection slot on him. Not ideal.Dubas should know by now what sort of deal Hyman would want, but if you've got time, why not use it.
At worst, Hyman is going to have a repeat season and basically play himself off the team with his contract demands.
At best, Hyman takes a discount to stay here.
Either way, there's no urgency to get the deal done here.
It should be a priority. I believe he is under utilized and should be getting 25 minutes a night from first line to third line. The 2020-21 season is the final year of Zach Hyman's 4 year contract. That also means he is eligible to sign a new contract extension instead of becoming a UFA. So knowing that do you think Dubas should try to sign Hyman to a contract extension during the offseason and would Hyman be willing to sign one?
