Should Avs play Rantanen as center even after MacKinnon's return?

They should at least split up these two. Depth scoring has been an issue in the playoffs. Make a deadline trade for a top six winger + Rantanen driving his own line and the problem is solved.

Trade MacKinnon, how many Cups for Avs with Mackinnon?
- its his 9th season in the NHL

Avs are winning, playing better without MacKinnon
- to win a cup, you need to do things what fans might not like
or see is the right thing

Make Rants a center, for good, keep the rest as is but get a star RW and a left side star D
and a good goalie, who brings a SC ring with him for MacKinnon
10 games without MacKinnon this season and you want to trade him? He’s a top 2-4 player in the world that makes everyone around him better. This extremely small sample size of winning without him at the beginning of a season says more about how good the Avs actually are and how well other players have stepped up in his absence.

Landeskog is playing more as a center than Rantanen is. Takes more draws and plays deep in the defensive zone.

Avs shouldn't try to get creative when MacKinnon returns. Avs should keep the first line together. They've been one of the better lines in hockey for a while now.

MacKinnon
Rantanen
Kadri
Newhook

That's some center depth.
Should at least try it for a couple weeks once Nate is bäck and see how they score 10 goals per game.

I dont actually think that splitting them up would lead to more scoring in the regular season, but would help the team overall in the playoffs. In the regular season teams dont really make many adjustments to each opponent.. not compared to playoff adjustments. A three line team is just much harder to study and adjust against than a two line team.

It also gives us insurance against MacKinnon or Kadri missing time.

But most importantly, having more competent centers should help activate Girard, Byram, Makar and Towes.

MacKinnon looked really good a few years back when both landeskog and Rantanen went down. Lets see if he can elevate more average players, or just let him pass to Makar like he wants to anyway.

Seriously I hear stuff like this and I wonder exactly what players you are suggesting and if those players are even out there and if it fits under the cap and why would the Avs trade Mack in the first place ffs?

This stretch without Mack has shown he absolutely can, and in fact I believe for another franchise Mikko may well have been converted permanently to Center. It maximizes his unreal skill set even further, and a position Rantanen already played some developing in Finland. He and Nate just do such unspeakably special things together and should never be separated. That line is funny though, Landeskog could actually be considered the true center as he plays the 200 foot game, and all 3 seem to share taking face offs.

Yep. Our top line basically has 3 guys taking turns playing center. Seems to work well.
