Sheltered yes, but very effective in that role. If his new team deploys him in an identical role he could be fairly impactful.
I mean... not really? If a team could somehow figure out how to not let him take any even-strength shifts at all, he might be effective. He bleeds goals against even against the dregs of the opposition.

Has he done that his whole career? Always considered him a natural LD but maybe I’m wrong
Pretty much. He's offense only, so he's like a winger playing the offside.

i wont be surprised if he takes less,
to join Panthers, and have some seasons in front of his family
and as mentor and role model for South Florida youth.
He's made good money [$35M] in NHL career, can consider other priorities

Someone will pay him short term. Alone for his offense.

The Flyers f***ed up and traded him for scraps because AV is a dinosaur.

He should go somewhere that can use help on the PP, and be sheltered with a defensive left defender.

Yes, he has his warts but he’s an effective offensive piece for a team starving for help on the back end.

Ghost is conceding 2.93 GA/60 at ES. Four other Detroit dmen bleeds goals against at a higher rate.

At 5on5, Ghost actually has the 2nd best GA/60 on the team. More than a goal per hour better than Chiarot.

Chiarot - 3.4
Walman - 3.32
Petry - 3.09
Seider - 3.03
Edvinsson - 2.88
Holl - 2.42
Ghost - 2.39
Maatta - 1.87

Now factor in his quality of competition. He's f***ing terrifying to have out there.

He was an absolute force against Montreal tonight. He was unreal in the 3rd and was the reason for the relentless pressure that resulted in the tying goal. His jumping catch of the puck to keep the puck in at the blue line was one of the nicest plays I've seen to keep a puck in maybe ever. Definitely a better player than HF experts give him credit for but that doesn't make him a rare case lol.
He’s amazing. We were reliving plays he had in Philly.

Ghost/Maata had the easiest QoC in the entire NHL, compared to Seider who had by far the hardest. Ghost/Maata was heavily sheltered and still gave up way too many chances and goals. Basically they played against mostly 3rd/4th lines all season. Numbers look far less impressive in that light.

no doubt, he had a solid season, but I can't see him getting a long term deal, one or two years, 4 million-ish per. Some team that is need of a PP QB. It was a very nice bounce back season for him.

He's always played his best on the right.

He's averaged over 49 points a season for the last 3 years on three different teams. He's the most misunderstood player in the league. He's not bad defensively, or at least he was never bad defensively in Philly (or in Arizona or Carolina, I believe), he just isn't safe. He's trying to make a play, always.

I don't think a single playoff team will want a player who's purely a PP specialist, it's not exactly a recipe for success in the post-season. Certainly not the Panthers, Maurice would never play him.

Him and Barrie are battling for the same job. Bottom pair with PP1 opportunity on a non playoff team. Tough market to crack.

Wouldn't mind him on the Capitals for the same 4M he got from Detroit, but he probably gets a good deal on a rebuilding team. We are dying for someone who can skate the puck and make plays from D other than Carlson who wasn't the best skating D to begin with. Sandin has clay feed, Fehervary can skate but has no offensive game, Jensen/TVR are older RH versions of Fehervary. Move one of TVR/Jensen to capitalize on the values two way mid pairing RDs have in the market.

Sandin Carlson
Fehervary Gostisbehere
Alexeyev TVR/Jensen
